equip 128953 — 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub, USB-A to 4 x USB-A
4 x USB-A at 5 GbpsUSB-A host connectorBus-poweredPlug and play
The equip 128953 is the plain version of the four-port hub: one USB-A plug into the computer, four USB-A sockets out, all running at up to 5 Gbps. No adapter to carry, no drivers to install, no settings. It suits the desk that has simply run out of ports rather than one that needs video, networking or charging.
Compatibility — check before buying:
The plug is USB-A, so a laptop with only USB-C ports needs a different model — equip’s 128954 is the same hub with a USB-C plug, and the 128956 is a USB-A hub supplied with a USB-C adapter. This hub is bus-powered with no external supply and no charging input, so it cannot charge a laptop; keyboards, mice, dongles, flash drives, card readers and one bus-powered SSD are the right load, and two portable hard drives at once are not. There is no video output, no Ethernet and no card reader. equip publishes the ports, the speed and the power arrangement for this model but does not publish its dimensions, weight, cable length or colour, so we do not quote figures we cannot source.
Best For
✓ Desktops and laptops that have run out of USB-A sockets
✓ Keyboards, mice, wireless receivers and licence dongles
✓ Flash drives and card readers
✓ One bus-powered external SSD at full 5 Gbps
✓ Home, office and study desks
✓ A cheap spare hub to keep in a drawer
Key Features
Four ports at 5 Gbps
USB 3.2 Gen 1 SuperSpeed on all four sockets, backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices at their own rates. The bandwidth is shared, so one drive at a time gets the full amount.
Nothing to install
Plug and play. No driver disc, no software, no configuration — plug it into a free USB port and the four sockets appear.
Nothing to carry either
Bus-powered from the host, so there is no mains adapter and no second cable. That is the trade-off for the power budget being whatever the computer can spare.
The simple option in the range
equip builds this same hub with a USB-C plug (128954) and with a USB-C adapter in the box (128956). This is the plain USB-A one, and it is the cheapest way into the range.

Singular Expert Insight
There is nothing clever here and that is the point — four USB-A ports at full speed, from a brand that publishes what the hub actually does. Where it stops is power: bus-powered means the budget is whatever your computer spares, which covers flash drives, receivers, keyboards and one external SSD and does not cover a pair of portable hard drives. If a monitor, a network socket or laptop charging is on the list, no four-port hub will get you there — that is a docking station.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You have a USB-A machine that has run out of ports and you want four more at full 5 Gbps for low-draw devices, at the lowest sensible price.
Skip it if
Skip it if your laptop only has USB-C, if you will run more than one bus-powered drive, or if you need video, Ethernet or charging.
Also consider
equip 128954 if your machine has USB-C, 128956 if you want a USB-C adapter in the box, or a self-powered hub for multiple drives.
