The equip 221159 is a premium Cat5e shielded inline coupler with two RJ45 female jacks, used to join two finished patch cables into one longer link when a single cable does not reach.
The housing is fully shielded metal and the contacts are gold-flashed; wiring is 1:1 straight-through, so the coupler is transparent to the link — what goes in one side comes out the other. equip rates it at 100 MHz, the Cat5e bandwidth, for Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet.

What It Means in Practice
- Extend a patch cable that is a little too short without re-cabling — plug one cable in each side.
- Because it is shielded, it keeps the shield continuous when both patch cables are shielded (F/UTP, S/FTP).
- Each coupler adds a connection point; for the best result keep to one coupler per link.
- Works the same with unshielded patch cables — the shield simply stays unused.
What Will Not Work
- It does not terminate installation cable — it accepts RJ45 plugs only (no LSA/punch-down).
- It is not a keystone and does not snap into a patch panel or wall plate.
- It is not a splitter: one coupler joins one cable to one cable; it cannot share a port between two devices.
- 10 Gbit/s links — this is a Cat5e component; use a Cat6A coupler for 10GBase-T.
