equip LC to ST OM3 Duplex Fibre Patch Cable, 5 m

OM3 multimodeLC ↔ ST5 mLSZH Aqua

The equip 255215 is a 5 m duplex OM3 multimode 50/125 µm fibre optic patch cable with an LC connector on one end and ST on the other, for linking switches, servers, media converters and patch panels in racks and comms rooms.

OM3 is laser-optimised 50/125 µm multimode fibre, recognised by its aqua jacket, and the long-standing standard for 10 Gigabit links inside a building: IEEE specifies OM3 for 10GBASE-SR up to 300 m and 25GBASE-SR up to 70 m.

What's in the Box

  • 1 × LC-ST duplex fibre optic patch cable, 5 m (package contents as listed by the manufacturer)

What It Means in Practice

  • At 5 m it reaches between neighbouring racks or across a small comms room.
  • Duplex means two fibres in one cable: one carries transmit and the other receive, so one cable completes one link between two transceivers.
  • Because one end is LC and the other ST, it connects two different port types directly, for example an SFP/SFP+ transceiver to an ST patch panel or older ST equipment, with no coupler or adapter in between.
  • The LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) jacket is the usual requirement in offices, data centres and public buildings: in a fire it gives off little smoke and no corrosive halogen gas.
  • Keep the end faces covered until you plug in: a dirty connector is the most common reason a new fibre link does not come up.

What Will Not Work

  • Single-mode optics (LX, LR, ER at 1310/1550 nm): they need an OS2 single-mode cable, not multimode.
  • Links that are not LC on one side and ST on the other: check both ports before you order.
  • Copper RJ45 ports: fibre needs an optical transceiver or a media converter at each end.
  • MPO/MTP ports (40G/100G SR4 parallel optics): they use multi-fibre trunk cables, not duplex patch cords.

Key Features

OM3 multimode fibre
OM3 50/125 µm multimode for 850 nm optics; IEEE specifies OM3 for 10GBASE-SR up to 300 m and 25GBASE-SR up to 70 m.

LC and ST connectors
LC plugs into an SFP/SFP+ transceiver; ST plugs into an ST patch panel or older ST equipment.

LSZH jacket
low smoke, zero halogen sheath in aqua (turquoise), the colour code for OM3.

Ceramic ferrules
Ceramic ferrules on every connector for precise fibre alignment and repeatable mating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is OM3 enough for 10 Gigabit?
Yes. 10GBASE-SR is specified up to 300 m on OM3, far beyond typical rack and room distances. Choose OM4 only if you plan 25G or longer runs.
The link does not come up. What should I check?
First the end faces (clean them), then that both transceivers are the same type (multimode SR/SX), then polarity: transmit on one side must reach receive on the other. Send us the switch and transceiver models and we will help.
Can I use a longer cable than I need?
Yes, a few metres more make no measurable difference on multimode links. Just avoid tight bends and kinks, and coil any slack loosely.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Fibre patch cords rarely fail on quality; they fail because the grade or the connector does not match the port. Check three things before you order: the fibre type your transceivers expect (multimode SR/SX for this cable), the connector on each port, and UPC versus APC. If you are adding optics too, see our network switches with SFP/SFP+ ports.
✓ Buy it if you need a 5 m OM3 link between LC and ST ports.
✕ Skip it if your transceivers are single-mode (LX/LR): you need an OS2 cable.
→ Also consider equip OM3 patch cables in other lengths and connector pairs: ask us for the exact code.
Not sure which cable you need? Send us the model of your switch, transceiver or patch panel and we will confirm fibre type and connectors before you order.
