Equip 255642 — LC/PC OM4 Fiber Optic Pigtail Set, 12 Colours, 1 m

OM4 50/125 µmLC/PC · ceramic ferrule12 colours × 1 mLSZH

The Equip 255642 is a set of twelve OM4 multimode (50/125 µm) fibre optic pigtails, each 1 m long with one LC/PC connector, made for fusion-splicing into fibre patch panels, splice boxes and distribution frames in data centres and enterprise networks.

Every pigtail in the set has a different jacket colour, so a 12-fibre cable can be terminated with a clear one-to-one colour match and traced later without a label chart. The low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) jacket makes the set suitable for indoor installation in comms rooms, risers and office floors.

Before you order: these are OM4 multimode pigtails with LC/PC connectors. They are not for single-mode (OS2) cable and must not be mated with LC/APC (angled, usually green) adapters.

What's in the Box

  • 12 × LC/PC fibre optic pigtail, OM4 multimode 50/125 µm, 1 m each
  • Each pigtail in a different colour (12-colour set)

What It Means in Practice

  • One end is a factory-terminated LC/PC connector with ceramic ferrule; the other end is bare fibre that is fusion-spliced to the installed cable inside a splice cassette.
  • IEEE specifies OM4 for 10GBASE-SR links up to 400 m and 40G/100G SR4 links up to 150 m. A spliced pigtail adds only a small loss, so the link budget is set mainly by the cable run and the number of connector pairs.
  • Twelve colours means one pigtail per fibre of a 12-fibre cable, which keeps the port order on the patch panel identical to the fibre order in the cable.
  • A 1 m length gives enough fibre to route from the splice tray to the front adapters and keep a service loop for re-splicing.

What Will Not Work

  • It is not a patch cord: there is only one connector. You need a fusion splicer (or a fibre contractor) to use it.
  • Single-mode OS2 links (1310/1550 nm long-reach optics) — use OS2 single-mode pigtails instead.
  • LC/APC adapters or connectors — PC and APC end faces must never be mated; the angle damages both connectors.
  • Mixed-grade links — if part of the path is OM2 or OM1, the whole link performs to the lowest grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I plug a pigtail straight into a switch?
No. The bare end is spliced to the installed cable and the LC connector goes into the patch panel adapter. From the panel to the switch you then use an LC duplex patch cord of the same OM grade.
What if my cable has fewer than 12 fibres?
Use one pigtail per fibre and keep the rest as spares in the splice tray — the colours still help you keep the order.
Which patch cords match these pigtails?
LC duplex patch cords in OM4 with PC/UPC polish. If the switch optics are SR (850 nm), they work over this multimode fibre.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A pigtail set is the cleanest way to terminate a multimode backbone: splice once at the panel and everything after that is standard LC patching. When you plan the active side, look at our switches with SFP ports and choose SR (850 nm) multimode optics to match OM4.
✓ Buy it if you are terminating a 12-fibre OM4 multimode cable into an LC patch panel or splice box by fusion splicing.
✕ Skip it if you have no fusion splicer available, or the cable is single-mode OS2 — then pre-terminated cable or OS2 pigtails are the right choice.
→ Also consider the 2 m version of this OM4 set if you need more slack, and LC duplex OM4 patch cords for the panel-to-switch side.
