equip 128966 — USB-C Hub, 2 x USB-C and 2 x USB-A at 10 Gbps

10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 22 x USB-C + 2 x USB-AExtra 5 V / 2 A input15 cm cable

The equip 128966 is a four-port USB-C hub that runs at 10 Gbps rather than the usual 5, and splits its ports two USB-C and two USB-A so current and older devices share the same hub. There is a fifth connector on the side: a plain 5 V / 2 A input you can feed when four busy ports ask for more current than the laptop will give. The body is 102 mm long, 12.5 mm thick and weighs 40 g.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The extra power port is not Power Delivery. equip publishes it as a 5 V / 2 A input to improve stability, and states the power cord is not included. It will not charge your laptop, and there is no PD anywhere on this hub — if the machine has a single USB-C port, plugging this in means the laptop is not charging. To see the full 10 Gbps you need a host port and a device that both support USB 3.2 Gen 2; on an older 5 Gbps port the hub still works, just at 5. There is no video output, no Ethernet and no card reader. Note also the near-identical 128964, which has exactly the same two-and-two port layout but runs at 5 Gbps — half the speed for a two-digit difference in the part number. equip lists Windows 7 to 11, macOS 10.6 or newer and ChromeOS.

Best For

✓ 10 Gbps external SSDs where a 5 Gbps hub would be the bottleneck
✓ Desks halfway through the move from USB-A to USB-C
✓ Keyboards, mice, dongles and card readers alongside fast storage
✓ Laptops where a stability problem can be fixed by adding current
✓ Travel — 40 g and 12.5 mm thick
✓ Mixed Windows, Mac and ChromeOS environments

Key Features

10 Gbps, not 5
USB 3.2 Gen 2 on every port. On a capable external SSD that is roughly double the real-world transfer speed of the 5 Gbps hubs that look identical on a shelf.

Two of each connector
Two USB-C and two USB-A ports. A current SSD and an older keyboard or flash drive both plug in directly, which is the point of buying this instead of a four-of-a-kind hub.

A power input for stability
A separate 5 V / 2 A socket lets you add current when all four ports are busy. It is not Power Delivery and it does not charge the host — it keeps the hub’s own devices from dropping out. The cord is not supplied.

Small and light
30 x 12.5 x 102 mm and 40 g on a 15 cm cable. It sits beside the laptop rather than across the desk, and disappears into a bag.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this charge my laptop?
No. The extra USB-C socket is a 5 V / 2 A input for the hub itself, not Power Delivery, and equip publishes no PD support on this model. On a laptop with one USB-C port you will need to choose between the hub and the charger.
Will I really get 10 Gbps?
Only if both ends support it. The laptop port must be USB 3.2 Gen 2 or faster and so must the device. Plugged into an older 5 Gbps port everything still works — you simply get 5 Gbps, which is what a cheaper hub would give.
What is the difference from the equip 128964?
Speed, and only speed. The 128964 has the same two USB-C plus two USB-A layout in a similar body but runs at USB 3.2 Gen 1, so 5 Gbps instead of 10. If you are buying this hub for a fast SSD, the two-digit difference in the part number is the whole point.
Do I need the extra power cord?
Usually not. One or two devices run off the laptop’s port. Add a 5 V / 2 A supply through the side socket when all four ports are busy or when a device keeps disconnecting under load — the cord is not in the box, so budget for one if you expect that.
Singular Expert Insight
Two things justify this over the shelf full of 5 Gbps USB-C hubs. The first is the 10 Gbps link, which only pays off if you own a fast external SSD — on flash drives and keyboards it changes nothing. The second is the two-and-two connector split, the practical answer to a desk halfway through the USB-C changeover. Be clear about the power port: it is a 5 V stabiliser, not a charger, and the cord is not supplied. And the sibling trap is real — the 128964 looks the same and runs at half the speed. If a monitor or a network socket is part of the plan, that is a docking station, not this.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You own or expect to own a 10 Gbps SSD, you have both USB-C and USB-A devices, and you want the option of adding current when all four ports are busy.

Skip it if

Skip it if you need to charge the laptop through the hub, if all your devices are keyboards and flash drives, or if video or Ethernet are required.

Also consider

equip 128964 if 5 Gbps is enough and the price matters more, or a USB-C docking station if a screen and a network port need to come off one cable.
