Ricoh fi-7700: high-volume A3 duplex feeder with a full A3 flatbed for bound and fragile originals
80 ppm / 160 ipm A4 portrait300-sheet ADF up to A3A3+ flatbed (304.8 x 457.2 mm)44,000 sheets per day
The Ricoh fi-7700 (formerly Fujitsu fi-7700) is a production-class document scanner that pairs a 300-sheet duplex ADF, scanning A4 at 80 ppm / 160 ipm portrait and 100 ppm / 200 ipm landscape, with an A3-plus flatbed, aimed at scanning bureaus, archives, land registries and large back offices. Three colour CCD sensors are used, one for each side in the feeder and one for the flatbed, so image quality stays consistent whether a page goes through the ADF or is laid on the glass. Ricoh rates it for 44,000 sheets per day. The flatbed takes originals up to 304.8 x 457.2 mm, which covers A3 ledgers, bound registers, maps folded to size and documents too fragile or thick for any feeder. The scanner connects by USB 3.1 Gen 1 to a Windows capture PC and comes with PaperStream IP and PaperStream Capture, so batch profiles, barcode separation and automatic image clean-up are available from day one. Its weight and size mean it is usually installed once, on a dedicated table, and operated by trained staff rather than shared casually across an office. Before ordering, measure the space: the unit is 706 mm wide and 500 mm deep, and needs room around it for the stacker, the paper chute and opening the flatbed lid.
Before you order: This is a 35 kg machine with a 706 x 500 mm footprint and a USB-only connection: it needs a dedicated sturdy desk and a Windows PC next to it, as there is no network port and no macOS driver.
What's in the Box
- Ricoh fi-7700 scanner
- Stacker
- ADF paper chute
- AC adapter and AC cable
- USB cable
- Setup DVD-ROM with PaperStream IP driver and PaperStream Capture
What It Means in Practice
- A 300-sheet stack of A4 records is scanned double-sided in about two minutes, so one operator can clear several boxes of files per hour.
- Mixed A3 and A4 batches run through the same feeder, with paper from 20 to 413 g/m² and plastic cards up to 1.4 mm.
- Bound registers, books and brittle historical documents are scanned face-down on the A3+ flatbed in under one second per image at 300 dpi.
- Long documents up to 5,588 mm can be fed for plans, charts and continuous forms.
- Pick and brake rollers are rated for 250,000 sheets each, so consumable costs stay predictable in production use. Operators can stay seated: the feeder, flatbed and output stacker are reached from the same working position.
What Will Not Work
- There is no Ethernet or Wi-Fi; it must be connected to a PC by USB.
- Drivers are for Windows and Windows Server only; Mac and Linux workstations are not supported.
- Originals larger than 304.8 x 457.2 mm (A2 drawings, large maps) do not fit on the flatbed.
- It is not intended for photo or film archiving at high colour fidelity; use a dedicated photo scanner for that.
Key Features
Feeder plus A3+ flatbed
Most production scanners are feeder-only; the fi-7700 lets the same operator switch to the glass for bound or damaged material without moving to another workstation.
Triple CCD imaging
Separate CCD sensors for the front, back and flatbed give sharp results even on slightly lifted pages, which matters for book spines and creased files.
Paper protection
Ultrasonic multifeed detection, length detection and paper protection functions stop the scanner before a double feed or crumpled sheet damages an original.
Production software
PaperStream IP cleans images automatically (deskew, blank page removal, background removal) and PaperStream Capture handles batch profiles, indexing and barcode separation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the fi-7700 the same as the fi-7700S?
No. The fi-7700S is a separate model in the same family. Check that your order says fi-7700 with part number PA03740-B001 if you need the specification on this page.
Do I need the flatbed, or would the fi-7600 do?
The fi-7600 has the same 300-sheet A3 feeder and speed but no flatbed, and weighs about 11 kg instead of 35 kg. If you never scan bound or fragile material, the fi-7600 saves money and space.
How fast is the flatbed compared with the feeder?
A flatbed scan takes about 0.6 seconds in landscape and 0.9 seconds in portrait at 300 dpi, plus the time to place the page. For loose paper the 300-sheet feeder is always quicker; the flatbed is for what cannot be fed.
The unit I receive says Fujitsu, not Ricoh. Is that a different scanner?
No. Fujitsu's scanner business (PFU) is now part of Ricoh, and part number PA03740-B001 has been sold under both badges. A Fujitsu-badged and a Ricoh-badged fi-7700 are the same scanner and use the same drivers, PaperStream software and consumables, so either label is fine.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The fi-7700 earns its size in archive and registry projects where a share of the material cannot go through a feeder. If every original is loose paper, the fi-7600 is the better buy. Production scanning generates large image volumes quickly, so plan where the files will live before the first box is opened.
✓ Buy it if Buy it for digitisation projects that mix loose A3/A4 batches with bound books, registers or fragile records.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if your originals are all loose sheets; a feeder-only model does the same work at a fraction of the weight.
→ Also consider Also consider the Ricoh fi-7600, the same 300-sheet A3 feeder without the flatbed.
