Ricoh fi-8250: a fast duplex ADF and an A4 flatbed in one networked workgroup scanner
50 ppm / 100 ipm duplexA4 flatbed for books and fragile pagesGigabit LAN + USB 3.28,000 sheets per day
The Ricoh fi-8250 (formerly sold as Fujitsu fi-8250) is a workgroup document scanner that combines a 100-sheet duplex ADF running at 50 ppm / 100 ipm with an A4 flatbed, built for offices that scan daily batches but also need to capture bound, damaged or odd-shaped originals. It connects by USB 3.2 Gen 1 or Gigabit Ethernet, so it can sit on a desk next to one PC or be shared on the office network. The ADF uses two CIS sensors for front and back in a single pass, while the flatbed uses a colour CCD, which gives better depth of field on books and pages that do not lie perfectly flat. Ricoh rates it for 8,000 sheets per day, so it suits reception desks, accounts departments, HR and legal teams where a mixed pile of invoices, contracts, ID documents and occasional bound files is normal. Because both paths share the same PaperStream driver and profiles, staff do not need to learn two programs: the same scan button sends feeder or flatbed images to the same folder.
Before you order: Drivers are published for Windows, Windows Server and Linux (Ubuntu) only; there is no macOS driver for the fi-8250, so a Mac-only office should choose a model with macOS support such as the SP-1120N.
What's in the Box
- Ricoh fi-8250 scanner
- ADF paper chute
- AC adapter and AC cable
- USB cable
- Setup DVD-ROM with PaperStream IP driver, PaperStream Capture and utilities
What It Means in Practice
- A 100-page duplex contract runs through the ADF in roughly a minute at 300 dpi, front and back, without turning pages by hand.
- Bound books, stapled files, receipts glued to paper and torn originals go on the A4 flatbed instead of the feeder, so nothing has to be unstapled or forced through rollers.
- Paper from 20 to 465 g/m² and documents from 48 x 50 mm up to Legal length feed through the ADF, so thin copies and thick card can be scanned in one session.
- With Gigabit LAN it can be shared by several users through PaperStream NX Manager or the network driver instead of being tied to one workstation.
- Long-page mode handles documents up to 6,096 mm, useful for ECGs, logs and continuous forms.
What Will Not Work
- The flatbed is A4 (215.9 x 297 mm); A3 drawings and full broadsheet pages do not fit.
- There is no Wi-Fi; network use requires a wired Ethernet connection.
- There is no macOS driver, so it cannot be used directly from a Mac.
- It is not a photo scanner: glossy prints and slides need a dedicated photo or film scanner for archival quality.
Key Features
Two scanners in one
The ADF handles daily batch volume while the flatbed covers the documents that should never go through rollers, so one device replaces a feeder scanner plus a separate flatbed on the same desk.
Clear Image Capture
Ricoh's optical design for the ADF gives clean, high-contrast images that help OCR accuracy on invoices and forms, with lower power draw than older CCD feeders.
Mixed batch feeding
Automatic separation control adjusts the roller torque for each sheet, and ultrasonic multifeed detection can ignore sticky notes or attached cards in defined positions instead of stopping the batch.
Passport and ID capture
Passports can be scanned on the flatbed or in the ADF with a carrier sheet, and PaperStream can read the MRZ line, which speeds up guest registration and KYC checks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can several people scan to it over the network?
Yes. It has a Gigabit Ethernet port, and Ricoh supplies PaperStream NX Manager and network driver options so that users scan from their own workstations or from a central capture server rather than from one PC only.
Is the flatbed slower than the feeder?
Each flatbed scan takes about 1.7 seconds at 300 dpi, so it is fast for single pages, but for stacks of loose paper the ADF at 50 ppm is always the quicker route.
Can it scan plastic ID cards in the feeder?
Yes. Plastic cards up to 1.4 mm can be fed through the ADF, and embossed or worn cards can be placed on the flatbed instead for a cleaner image.
The unit I receive says Fujitsu, not Ricoh. Is that a different scanner?
No. Fujitsu's scanner business (PFU) is now part of Ricoh, and part number PA03810-B601 has been sold under both badges. A Fujitsu-badged and a Ricoh-badged fi-8250 are the same scanner and use the same drivers, PaperStream software and consumables, so either label is fine.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The fi-8250 is the scanner we suggest when a team says most of our paper is loose, but sometimes we get a passport or a bound file. Buying a feeder-only model and then improvising with the copier for the odd book usually costs more time than the flatbed adds in desk space. If you plan to archive scans to a shared drive, budget for a small
NAS for scan-to-folder storage at the same time. Ask us to set up the PaperStream profiles during installation, so each department gets its own one-button destination.
✓ Buy it if Buy it if you scan daily batches of up to a few thousand pages but also need a flatbed for passports, books or damaged originals.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if you never need a flatbed; a feeder-only scanner of the same class saves about half the desk depth.
→ Also consider Also consider the Ricoh SP-1425 if your volume is lower and USB on a single PC is enough, or the fi-7700 if you need A3 on the flatbed.
