Ricoh ScanSnap SV600 — A3 Overhead Document & Book Scanner
A3 overhead scanning3 seconds / pageBook correctionUSB 2.0
The Ricoh ScanSnap SV600 (PA03641-B301) is a contactless overhead scanner designed for books, magazines, newspapers, drawings, photographs and other originals that are difficult or unsuitable for a conventional sheet-fed scanner. It captures an A3 landscape scan in approximately 3 seconds and supports originals up to 432 x 300 mm and up to 30 mm thick.
Check before buying:
The SV600 is an overhead simplex scanner, not a sheet-fed duplex scanner. Documents are placed beneath the scanner rather than passed through rollers. Its contactless design is particularly useful for bound, delicate or thick originals. Connectivity is via USB 2.0 / USB 1.1 Type-B; Ethernet and Wi-Fi are not built in.
Best For
✓ Books, magazines and bound documents
✓ A3 drawings, newspapers and large originals
✓ Delicate documents that should not pass through rollers
✓ Multiple business cards, photos or notes in one scan
Key Features
Contactless A3 scanning
The overhead design captures originals without feeding them through the scanner. The maximum supported scan area is 432 x 300 mm, allowing A3 landscape documents and other large originals to be digitised.
Approximately 3 seconds per A3 page
Ricoh specifies an A3 landscape scan time of approximately 3 seconds per page across the standard ScanSnap quality modes, helping speed up book and document capture.
Book correction and page-turn detection
Auto Book Correction helps compensate for curvature near the spine of an open book, while Page Turning Detection can automatically trigger scanning as pages are turned.
Multiple document detection
Several smaller originals such as business cards, photographs or notes can be placed within the scan area together, with ScanSnap software detecting and cropping the individual documents.

Singular Expert Insight
The SV600 solves a different problem from a conventional office scanner. Instead of pulling originals through rollers, it photographs them from above, making it particularly useful for books, bound documents, artwork, newspapers and delicate originals. The trade-off is that it is simplex and USB-connected rather than a high-speed sheet-fed network scanner. For archival or library-style capture where document handling matters more than pages per minute, its overhead design is the key advantage.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You need to digitise books, magazines, A3 sheets, photographs or delicate originals without feeding them through a conventional scanner.
Check first
Choose a sheet-fed model if you need automatic duplex scanning of large stacks. The SV600 is an overhead simplex scanner and requires a USB-connected computer.
