HP 435 — Programmable Wireless Keypad, Jack Black
9 programmable keysBluetooth 5.324-month batterySpill resistant
Most number pads do one thing. The HP 435 does that and then hands you up to nine programmable keys with swappable keycaps — including a column of blank keys you assign yourself in HP Accessory Center — which is what turns a keypad into a shortcut pad for whatever you actually spend the day in. The keys are mechanical with low-profile travel under concave keycaps, so the stroke is short and quiet rather than mushy. It connects by Bluetooth 5.3 with Swift Pair, so there is no dongle and nothing occupying a port, and HP publishes up to 24 months of battery life from the single AA cell supplied in the box — on that timescale you stop thinking about charging at all. The surface is spill-resistant and sanitisable. Physically it is 110 x 153 x 19 mm and 254 g (HP publishes 4.33 x 6.02 x 0.75 in, 0.56 lb), so it travels. Finish is jack black, and the plastics are 50% post-consumer recycled, in FSC-certified plastic-free packaging.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Two things to plan for. First, the programming: the nine keys are assigned in HP Accessory Center, which is Windows software. The pad itself is listed for Windows 11, Windows 10, macOS and ChromeOS, so it will type numbers on any of those over Bluetooth — but if you are on a Mac or a Chromebook, expect to borrow a Windows machine to set the custom keys up, or to use the pad as a plain keypad. Tell us your setup and we will say plainly what you will get. Second, the keycaps: the box includes four spare transparent keys, a key puller and two sticker sheets, so the blank column can be labelled for the shortcuts you assign rather than left anonymous. That is a nice touch and also a warning — label them, or in a month you will not remember what key three does. The connection is Bluetooth only: there is no USB receiver in the box and no wired mode, so a machine without Bluetooth needs its own adapter. And on the battery: 1 x AA, supplied, which means no charging cable to lose and a two-minute fix when it finally runs out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I program the keys on a Mac?
The pad is listed for macOS and will type numbers there over Bluetooth, but HP Accessory Center — the software that assigns the custom keys — is Windows software. Plan to set the keys up on a Windows machine, then use the pad anywhere.
Is there a USB dongle?
No. It is Bluetooth 5.3 only, with Swift Pair. That keeps every port free, but a desktop without Bluetooth will need its own adapter.
How long does the battery really last?
HP publishes up to 24 months from the single AA cell that comes in the box. There is no charging cable and no dock — when it eventually stops, you swap a battery.
Singular Expert Insight
The programmable column is the reason to pick this over a plain pad: nine keys within reach of the hand that is already off the keyboard changes how a spreadsheet or a timeline session feels. Just remember the assignment software is Windows. See our

Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a Bluetooth number pad that doubles as a shortcut pad, with a two-year battery and nothing to charge.
Skip it if
You need a wired or dongle connection, or you cannot reach a Windows machine to assign the custom keys.
Also consider
The CHERRY G84-4700 for a wired mechanical pad, or the 3Dconnexion Numpad Pro if the shortcuts are for CAD.
