HP 45 Original Large Ink Cartridge · Black · 42 ml · approx. 930 Pages · for DeskJet, OfficeJet & Photosmart

HP HP 45 (51645AE) is a genuine HP large ink cartridge in black, 42 ml, rated at approx. 930 pages, made for owners of legacy HP DeskJet, OfficeJet, Photosmart and DesignJet printers who want the manufacturer's own ink rather than a compatible.

HP 45 is the long-running black cartridge for classic DeskJet 9xx/1xxx, OfficeJet g/k/r/t-series, Photosmart and early DesignJet printers — many of which are still running in offices and drawing rooms.

• 1 × HP 45 large black ink cartridge (51645AE)
• Protective tape over the nozzles — remove before installing

• The yield is HP's figure measured with the ISO/IEC 24711 or HP testing methodology method on a standard mixed text-and-graphics test page. Full-page colour, photos or heavy graphics use ink faster, so real page counts will be lower; plain text documents usually land close to the rating.
• 42 ml of pigment black is a lot of ink for these printers — approx. 930 pages at the ISO test coverage — so one cartridge lasts a long time in a typical office.
• The printhead is part of the cartridge, so a new HP 45 usually restores print quality on an older printer whose prints have become streaky.
• The printhead is built into the cartridge, so every new cartridge also brings fresh nozzles. If prints are streaky and cleaning cycles do not help, a new cartridge usually fixes it.
• Installing takes a minute: when the plotter reports low ink, open the ink-cartridge cover, take out the old cartridge, shake the new one gently if the instructions on the box ask for it, and push it in until it locks. The front panel confirms the new cartridge.
• Keep spare cartridges sealed in their box at room temperature and install them before the date printed on the packaging; an opened cartridge is best used rather than stored.
• Empty HP cartridges can be returned for free recycling through HP Planet Partners where the programme is offered.

• Newer DeskJet printers that take HP 56, 300, 301 or later — the HP 45 is a much larger, older cartridge design.
• Colour printing — black only; colour printers in this family use a separate colour cartridge (e.g. HP 78 or HP 23).
• Any printer that is not in the compatibility list below — if your model is not listed, send us the model before ordering.
