What It Means in Practice
- HP rates large-format cartridges by volume (3 × 29 ml), not by pages — how far it goes depends on the size of your prints and how much of the sheet is covered. Line drawings and CAD plots use little ink; full-colour posters and renders use a lot.
- Three cartridges of the same colour: use one, keep two as spares. HP gives an 18-month shelf life, so the 3-pack suits offices that use cyan regularly.
- Colour inks in HP 712 are dye-based for bright colour on CAD, GIS and presentation prints.
- The printhead is a separate part that stays in the printer — this cartridge is only the ink supply. If print quality drops while there is still ink, the fix is usually a printhead clean from the printer menu, not another cartridge.
- Installing takes a minute: when the plotter reports low ink, open the ink-cartridge cover, take out the old cartridge, shake the new one gently if the instructions on the box ask for it, and push it in until it locks. The front panel confirms the new cartridge.
- Keep spare cartridges sealed in their box at room temperature and install them before the date printed on the packaging; an opened cartridge is best used rather than stored.
- Empty HP cartridges can be returned for free recycling through HP Planet Partners where the programme is offered.

- DesignJet T120/T520 — those use HP 711.
- Other colours — this pack contains cyan only.
- Any printer that is not in the compatibility list below — if your model is not listed, send us the model before ordering.
