Poly RealPresence Group 500 with EagleEye IV 12x — complete 720p meeting-room kit
Room video kitEagleEye IV 12x cameraH.323 / SIP720p configuration
The Poly RealPresence Group 500 with EagleEye IV 12x is a complete standards-based room video conferencing kit — codec, 12x optical-zoom pan/tilt camera, tabletop microphone array and remote control — for small and medium meeting rooms that call over H.323 or SIP.
This is the 720p configuration of the kit (HP part 89L72AA, EU localisation #ABB). It connects to your screens over HDMI and to your network over Gigabit Ethernet, and it suits organisations that already run, or need to join, a standards-based video estate: MCUs, SIP registrars and other room systems from Poly or other vendors.
Before you order: This is a standards-based H.323/SIP room system, not a Microsoft Teams Rooms or Zoom Rooms appliance. Joining Teams or Zoom meetings needs an interop or gateway service from your provider. Tell us how you meet today and we will confirm it fits before you order.
What's in the Box
- RealPresence Group 500 codec
- EagleEye IV 12x camera
- RealPresence Group Microphone Array
- Remote control
- Cable bundle
What It Means in Practice
- Connect one or two displays over HDMI — the codec has two HDMI video outputs, so far-end people and shared content can sit on separate screens.
- Share a laptop over the HDMI input; content is sent to the far end using H.239.
- The 12x optical zoom with pan and tilt frames the whole table or zooms in on a presenter at the far end of the room.
- Polycom Lost Packet Recovery (LPR) helps keep video usable on busy or lossy networks.
- Encryption is built in (AES-128/256, H.235.6, TLS), which matters for calls that leave your own network.
- The camera connects to the codec with a cable run of up to 10 m; longer runs need the EagleEye Digital Extender, sold separately.
What Will Not Work
- No display is included — you need your own HDMI TV or monitor (one or two).
- This is the 720p configuration — do not order it expecting 1080p people video out of the box; ask us first if 1080p is a requirement.
- The EagleEye IV 12x is not a USB webcam: it connects to the Group codec, not directly to a PC or laptop.
- Wi-Fi is not listed for the codec — plan a wired Ethernet point in the room.
- It does not join Teams or Zoom meetings natively without an interop or gateway service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use it for Microsoft Teams or Zoom meetings?
It calls natively over H.323 and SIP. To join Teams or Zoom meetings you need a standards-based interop or gateway service from your provider. Tell us which platform you use and we will advise.
Can the camera be placed further than 10 m from the codec?
Yes, with the EagleEye Digital Extender, which is sold separately.
Can I add a second microphone for a longer table?
The codec has a line input for an optional microphone. Send us the room size and table layout and we will suggest the right add-on.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The Group 500 kit makes most sense where a standards-based video estate already exists — an MCU, a SIP registrar or other H.323/SIP room systems — and you want an all-in-one room that matches it. For cloud-first teams that meet only on Teams or Zoom, a USB video bar driven by a room PC is usually simpler. Browse our
video conferencing range for cameras, speakerphones and video bars.
✓ Buy it if you need an H.323/SIP room system with a 12x zoom camera and dual-display output for a small or medium meeting room.
✕ Skip it if your meetings are Teams- or Zoom-only with no interop service, or you need 1080p video from day one.
→ Also consider a USB video bar for cloud meetings from a room PC, if you do not need H.323/SIP calling.
