HP ProDesk 2 Tower G1a — Ryzen 7 8700G Business Tower, FreeDOS
AMD Ryzen 7 8700G16 GB DDR5512 GB NVMe SSDFreeDOS
The HP ProDesk 2 Tower G1a E (B70XWAT) is a business tower desktop built around the AMD Ryzen 7 8700G, an 8-core, 16-thread processor with integrated Radeon 780M graphics, aimed at offices that want strong everyday performance without a separate graphics card.
This configuration ships with 16 GB of DDR5-5200 memory in a single module, a 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD, Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5.4, and an HP wired keyboard and mouse. It comes with FreeDOS rather than Windows, which suits companies that deploy their own volume-licensed Windows image or run Linux.
Before you order: This unit has no Windows licence installed — it boots FreeDOS. Budget for a Windows 11 Pro licence (or your own corporate image) before it goes on a desk.
What's in the Box
- HP ProDesk 2 Tower G1a E desktop (B70XWAT) with 16 GB DDR5 and 512 GB SSD installed
- HP 125 v2 wired USB keyboard
- HP 125 wired USB mouse
- Power cable
- HP documentation
What It Means in Practice
- The 8-core Ryzen 7 8700G handles heavy spreadsheets, large browser workloads, ERP clients and light photo editing comfortably; the integrated Radeon 780M is enough for multiple office displays and casual 3D.
- Memory is a single 16 GB stick, so one DIMM slot is free: adding a matching 16 GB DDR5 module gives 32 GB and enables dual-channel mode, which also speeds up the integrated graphics.
- Two monitors can be connected directly: one on DisplayPort 1.4a and one on HDMI 1.4b. For a 4K screen at 60 Hz use the DisplayPort output — HDMI 1.4b tops out at 4K 30 Hz.
- The front panel carries most of the fast ports (1 × USB-C 5Gbps, 2 × USB-A 10Gbps, 2 × USB-A 5Gbps), so headsets, flash drives and phones plug in without reaching behind the case.
- Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 are built in, so the tower can go where there is no network socket, and a wired RJ-45 port is there for offices that prefer cabled LAN.
What Will Not Work
- Windows is not included — the PC starts in FreeDOS and needs an operating system installed before use.
- There is no Thunderbolt or USB4, and HP lists the front USB-C port as a 5Gbps data port only, without video output.
- A full-size gaming graphics card with external power connectors is not an option: the system runs on a 180 W internal power supply. Low-profile, slot-powered cards are the realistic upgrade path — ask us before buying one.
- Only one M.2 slot is available for storage (the second M.2 slot holds the Wi-Fi card); a second drive has to go in the single 3.5-inch bay.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add a graphics card?
There is a PCIe 4 x16 slot, but the 180 W internal supply rules out power-hungry cards. A low-profile or slot-powered workstation card is the sensible choice — send us the card model and we will confirm it fits and runs.
How far can the memory be expanded?
There are two DDR5 DIMM slots and one is already used by a 16 GB module. HP does not publish a maximum on this configuration page, so tell us the capacity you need and we will quote compatible modules.
Which keyboard layout is supplied?
The supplied HP 125 v2 keyboard has a QWERTY layout. If your users need Greek characters printed on the keys, ask us and we can supply a matching HP keyboard.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The B70XWAT pairs the top Ryzen 7 8700G with FreeDOS, which makes it one of the more cost-effective ways to get an 8-core business tower if you already own Windows licences. The first upgrade we recommend is a second 16 GB stick for dual-channel memory — see our
memory range. Check the part number before ordering: other ProDesk 2 Tower G1a configurations use different processors and ship with Windows 11 Pro.
✓ Buy it if you want an 8-core tower for office, ERP or light creative work and will install your own Windows or Linux image.
✕ Skip it if you need Windows ready out of the box, Thunderbolt, or a gaming-class graphics card.
→ Also consider a ProDesk configuration with Windows 11 Pro preinstalled if you do not have volume licences.
