The HP v222w is a 32 GB USB 2.0 flash drive in a capless, high-gloss metal body just 17.9 x 12 x 4.56 mm and 2.8 g — a stub rather than a stick, small enough to leave in a port. A key fob is supplied with it, which is how you carry something this easy to lose. It is one of the smallest branded drives on the market.

Compatibility — check before buying:
HP does not make this drive. HP-branded flash memory is manufactured and warranted under licence by PNY Technologies, and PNY publishes the specification and the warranty. That is not a criticism — PNY is a long-established memory maker — but it means any warranty claim goes to PNY, and it explains why HP’s own site carries no specification for it. This is a USB Type-A drive with no USB-C connector and no adapter in the pack. Be clear about the write speed before you order: PNY states a minimum of 14 MB/s read, and for write its 2021 sell sheet says a minimum of 4 MB/s while its European product page says 3 MB/s. Either way that is slow — copying a 4 GB file onto this drive is a job you start and walk away from. It is a drive for documents, not for video. If writing speed matters, the HP v212 (HPFD212LB) is the same brand at a minimum of 14 MB/s in both directions.

Why do you show two different write speeds?
Because PNY publishes two. Its 2021 sell sheet gives a minimum of 4 MB/s and its European product page gives 3 MB/s, and neither has been withdrawn. Rather than pick the flattering one we show both. The practical answer is the same: this drive writes slowly.
Is it too small to pull out?
It can be. At 17.9 mm there is not much to grip, which is exactly why it works well left in a port and less well swapped between machines all day. The supplied key fob helps if you carry it.
What is the HP v212 and should I buy that instead?
The v212 (HPFD212LB) is a full-size HP-branded drive, also USB 2.0, but rated at a minimum of 14 MB/s for both reading and writing — roughly four times this drive’s write speed — and it goes up to 128 GB. If you write large files, yes.
