HP x796w 64 GB — Metal Push-Pull USB 3.2 Drive
64 GBUSB 3.2 Type-AMetal push-pull, no capUp to 70 MB/s read
The HP x796w is a 64 GB USB 3.2 flash drive in a durable metal casing with a push-pull sliding connector, so there is no cap to lose. HP licenses its name for these drives rather than making them: PNY Technologies manufactures, publishes the specification and provides the warranty. PNY rates the European x796w range at up to 70 MB/s read.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Read this before comparing speeds. There are two different HP x796w product lines and they are not the same drive. The line our part numbers belong to — HPFD796L-16 through HPFD796L-512, sold in Europe — is published by PNY at up to 70 MB/s read. A separate line sold in the United States under part numbers like P-FD1TBHPX796W-GE, and made only in 512 GB and 1 TB, is published at 200 MB/s read and 100 MB/s write. Same model name, same metal push-pull body, completely different speed class, and retail listings routinely paste the 200 MB/s figure onto European SKUs like this one. Two further points: this is a USB Type-A plug, so it needs an adapter to reach a phone and none is supplied; and PNY publishes one read figure for the whole European range and no write speed, no dimensions and no weight, so there is nothing official distinguishing this 64 GB from the 128 GB on performance, and those lines stay empty here rather than being filled from a reseller.
Best For
✓ Everyday transport of documents, photographs and installers
✓ Anyone who wants a metal-bodied drive without paying a premium
✓ Offices where a cap-free slider survives being passed between desks
✓ Machines with USB-A ports that need a straightforward 64 GB stick
✓ Buyers who like the HP name on office equipment
✓ A dependable second drive kept as a spare copy
Key Features
Metal push-pull body
The connector slides out of a metal shell and back in. Nothing detaches, so there is no cap to lose, and the casing takes daily handling better than plastic.
64 GB for everyday use
Enough for documents, presentations, installers and a substantial folder of photographs, without paying for capacity that will sit empty.
USB 3.2, backwards compatible
A SuperSpeed link that also works in older USB 2.0 ports at those ports’ speeds. No drivers and no setup on Windows or macOS.
Two-year manufacturer term
PNY, which makes and warrants HP-branded drives under licence, publishes a two-year warranty for this product.

Singular Expert Insight
A metal body and a slider at this price is a fair deal, and two years of cover is honest for what the drive is. What you should go in knowing is the speed: up to 70 MB/s is mid-range rather than fast, and the 200 MB/s figure attached to this model all over the internet belongs to a different product sold in a different market. We would rather tell you that plainly than let you discover it during your first large copy. If throughput matters, several drives in our USB flash drives range publish figures three or four times higher at this capacity, and we are happy to name one. For moving very large folders regularly, an external SSD will save you more time than any stick.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a solid 64 GB metal USB-A stick with no cap to lose, at a sensible price, and up to 70 MB/s read covers the documents and photographs you actually move.
Skip it if
You are buying on the 200 MB/s figure you saw elsewhere — that is the American line, not this one. Or you need a published write speed, exact dimensions, or a USB-C connector.
Also consider
The 128 GB HPFD796L-128 if you need more space at the same published speed. A faster 64 GB drive if throughput is the deciding factor — ask us and we will name one. A dual USB-A and USB-C drive if a phone is part of the plan.
