Link two 100G QSFP28 ports in the same rack with the HPE X240 1m DAC
100GQSFP28 to QSFP281mHPE FlexFabric
The HPE Networking X240 (JL271A) is a 1m 100G QSFP28-to-QSFP28 direct attach copper cable for HPE FlexFabric data-centre switches, for teams that need a short, low-cost 100G link between neighbouring switches or between a switch and a server in the same rack.
A DAC has the QSFP28 connectors moulded onto both ends of a copper cable, so there are no separate optical transceivers to buy and no fibre to clean. HPE lists this X240 cable in the transceiver table of the FlexFabric 5945 QuickSpecs, the Comware-based HPE switch family.
Before you order: Do not accidentally order this cable for an HPE Aruba Networking CX switch. HPE's current QuickSpecs for the CX 6300, CX 6400, CX 8325 and CX 8360 v2 list the R0Z25A as their 100G QSFP28 1m DAC, not the JL271A. For a CX switch, order R0Z25A.
What's in the Box
- 1 x HPE Networking X240 100G QSFP28 to QSFP28 1m direct attach copper cable (JL271A), connectors fixed on both ends
What It Means in Practice
- One cable replaces two 100G optics plus a fibre patch lead for short runs, which keeps cost and power lower.
- 1m is enough for switches in adjacent rack units or for a top-of-rack switch to a server a few units away. Measure the cable route, not the straight distance between ports.
- Plug-and-play: the cable is recognised by the switch as an HPE part, which keeps support conversations simple.
- Copper DAC is thicker and stiffer than fibre. Plan cable management so the connectors are not under side load.
- Both ends are identical, so it does not matter which end goes to which switch.
What Will Not Work
- It is not the right part for HPE Aruba Networking CX switches; HPE lists the R0Z25A for those.
- It will not reach between racks; for longer runs you need a longer DAC, an AOC or optical transceivers with fibre.
- It does not work in 40G QSFP+ ports unless the switch documentation says that port supports 100G QSFP28.
- It is not a breakout cable: it connects one 100G port to one 100G port, not to four 25G ports.
- It does not connect to SFP28 or SFP56 ports.
Key Features
100G over copper
A single 100G QSFP28 link with no separate transceivers to buy or manage.
Short 1m length
Sized for links within a rack, keeping cable bundles tidy.
HPE FlexFabric listing
Listed by HPE in the FlexFabric 5945 QuickSpecs transceiver table.
Fixed connectors
Connectors are part of the cable, so there are no optics to mismatch or fibre ends to clean.

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Inside a rack, DACs are the cheapest and most reliable way to run 100G: no optics to fail, nothing to clean. The rule that saves projects is simple: match the cable part number to the switch family listed by HPE. For switches and uplinks, see our network switches.
✓ Buy it if Buy it to link two 100G QSFP28 ports on HPE FlexFabric switches within 1m.
✕ Skip it if Skip it for HPE Aruba Networking CX switches (order R0Z25A) or for runs longer than 1m.
→ Also consider Consider longer HPE DACs or optical transceivers for links between racks.
