i-tec U3HUB404 — USB-A Slim Passive HUB 4 Port
4 x USB-A at 5 Gbps20 cm integrated cable37 gBus-powered
The i-tec U3HUB404 is a 110 mm plastic bar weighing 37 grams that turns one USB-A port into four, with every socket running at the full 5 Gbps. The 20 cm host lead is built in, there is nothing to install and nothing to plug into a socket. i-tec covers it for two years and offers lifetime technical support.
Compatibility — check before buying:
i-tec calls this a passive hub and means it literally: it is bus-powered with no DC socket and no power adapter option at all, so extra power can never be added later. That is fine for memory sticks, receivers, keyboards, mice and a single bus-powered SSD, but four hungry devices at once — two bus-powered hard drives in particular — are more than one laptop port will supply, and i-tec publishes no per-port current figure to plan against. The host plug is USB-A. If your laptop has only USB-C ports, the identical i-tec C31HUB404 is the same hub with a USB-C lead. Two more siblings are easy to mix up: the U3HUBMETAL403 is the metal-body version with a 28 cm cable, and the U3CHARGEHUB4 adds per-port switches and BC 1.2 fast charging — but its charging mode needs a 10 W adapter that is not included. There is no video output and no Ethernet on any of them.
Best For
✓ Laptops and desktops that have run out of USB-A ports
✓ A single external SSD at full 5 Gbps plus keyboard and mouse
✓ Flash drives, card readers and wireless receivers
✓ Travel — 37 g with the cable already attached
✓ Tablets and phones with USB host support through an adapter
Key Features
5 Gbps on every port
All four sockets are USB 3.2 Gen 1, not a mix of fast and slow. Bandwidth is shared, so one drive at a time reaches the full rate, and USB 2.0 devices work at their own speed.
20 cm integrated cable
Short enough to sit beside the laptop rather than trail across the desk, and there is no second cable to pack or lose. It is captive, so it cannot be replaced.
Light for what it is
110 x 30 x 10 mm and 37 g in toughened plastic. i-tec built it around weight rather than around a metal shell, and it shows.
Protected and driver-free
Surge and overcurrent protection with an LED indicator, and no drivers on Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux, Android, iPadOS or Chrome OS.

Singular Expert Insight
i-tec is unusually plain-spoken here: the word passive is in the official product name, so nobody can claim they were misled about power. What you get is four full-speed ports in 37 grams for the price of a plastic body, and for flash drives, dongles and one external SSD that is the whole job done. The metal U3HUBMETAL403 costs more for a shell and 8 cm of extra cable, not for more power — it is passive too. Choose on host connector first and on body material second, and you will not go wrong.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want four full 5 Gbps USB-A ports from a USB-A machine in the lightest possible package with the cable already attached.
Skip it if
Skip it if you need to power two bus-powered drives at once, if you want per-port switches, or if your laptop only has USB-C sockets.
Also consider
i-tec C31HUB404 for a USB-C plug, U3HUBMETAL403 for a metal body and 28 cm cable, or U3CHARGEHUB4 if you want switches and charging.
