i-tec U3HUB445 — four 5 Gbps ports, one of them a real charging port

4 x USB-A at 5 GbpsBC 1.2 fast-charge port5 V / 2 A adapter includedDetachable 90 cm cable

The i-tec U3HUB445 is a charging hub as well as a data hub. Four USB-A ports run at up to 5 Gbps, and one of them — the port beside the LED — supports BC 1.2 fast charging, which is what a tablet needs before it will draw a proper current. The 5 V / 2 A adapter is in the box, so the ports are fed from the mains rather than from the computer, and the 90 cm host cable is detachable rather than moulded in, so it can be replaced or swapped for a longer one. Overload and overcurrent protection are built in.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The fast-charge port is one specific socket — the one next to the LED. i-tec is explicit that an iPad or a Samsung tablet will only charge through that port, so plugging into any of the other three and concluding the hub is faulty is the classic mistake here. The upstream socket is USB-B: the supplied lead is USB-A to USB-B, and a replacement is that specific cable, not any hub cable. The host end is USB-A, so a laptop with only USB-C needs an adapter you supply. There is no Power Delivery — the adapter feeds the hub, it does not charge your notebook — and i-tec does not publish per-port current limits or whether charging continues with the computer off.

Best For

✓ Desks where a tablet or phone charges alongside the work
✓ Four peripherals that all need to stay connected
✓ Flash drives, card readers and printers
✓ Setups where the cable has to reach a tower on the floor
✓ Small offices and reception counters
✓ Anyone who wants the adapter and cable in the box

Key Features

One port that actually charges
BC 1.2 support on the port beside the LED means a tablet negotiates a real charging current instead of the default trickle — the difference between charging and merely not discharging.

A cable you can replace
The 90 cm USB-A to USB-B lead is detachable, not moulded in. Swap it for a longer one when the tower sits under the desk, and a damaged cable does not mean a new hub.

Adapter included, protection built in
A 5 V / 2 A supply with a 115 cm DC cable comes with the hub, plus overload and overcurrent protection between a misbehaving device and the computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why will my tablet only charge on one port?
Because only one port implements BC 1.2, the charging specification a tablet looks for before it will draw more than the default current. i-tec marks it with the LED and states in the manual that an iPad or Samsung tablet charges through that port only. The other three are ordinary data ports and will charge small devices slowly. If several devices need fast charging at once, this is not the right hub — tell us how many and we will point you at one that is.
What is the difference between the U3HUB445 and the U3HUB448?
Two real differences. This one has the BC 1.2 fast-charge port and a detachable 90 cm USB-A to USB-B cable; the U3HUB448 has no BC 1.2 port at all and a fixed 28 cm USB-A cable, in a metal body. Both include the same 5 V / 2 A supply and both give four ports at 5 Gbps. Choose the 445 if charging or cable reach matters, the 448 if you want the smaller metal unit for travel.
Can I replace the cable if it is lost or damaged?
Yes, and that is one of the reasons to prefer this model — the lead is detachable. What you need is a USB 3.0 A-to-B cable: the wide, squarish USB-B connector used on printers and older external drives, in its USB 3.0 form. A USB 2.0 A-to-B cable will physically fit but will cap the hub at 480 Mbps. Tell us the length you want and we will match the right one.
Singular Expert Insight
Most hubs described as charging hubs are simply hubs with a power supply. This one is the real thing on one port: BC 1.2 is what a tablet actually looks for, and i-tec is unusually clear about which socket has it. That candour is worth something — buyers of similar hubs from our USB hub range regularly conclude a unit is broken when the truth is they used the wrong port. What this is not is a charging station: one BC 1.2 port and a 10 W supply, so it charges a device while running peripherals rather than charging several at once. Keep external hard drives on their own mains adapters. The detachable 90 cm A-to-B lead is the other quiet advantage over the smaller U3HUB448, whose 28 cm cable is fixed.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want four fast ports plus one port that will genuinely charge a tablet. You need the host cable to reach a tower under the desk, and you want it replaceable. You want the power adapter included rather than sold separately.

Skip it if

You need several devices fast-charging at once — there is one BC 1.2 port and a 10 W supply. Your laptop only has USB-C, since the host plug is USB-A. You want the hub to charge the notebook, which it cannot do.

Also consider

i-tec U3HUB448 for the smaller metal version without the fast-charge port. A USB-C hub if the machine has no full-size USB port. A dedicated multi-port charger if charging several devices is the real job.
