The i-tec C31TYPEA lets a USB-C cable or device plug into a standard USB-A port while keeping USB 3.2 Gen 2 speed, up to 10 Gbps, so an external SSD or a fast card reader is not throttled by the adapter in between. Part number C31TYPEA needs no drivers and works with Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Android, iPadOS, ChromeOS and Linux, and at 8 g it lives permanently in a laptop bag.
Good to know: Because the host side is USB-A, i-tec states that the adapter cannot carry video and does not support Power Delivery charging of the connected device beyond what the port itself provides. The 10 Gbps figure also needs a USB 3.2 Gen 2 host port; on an older USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port the link runs at that port speed.

Will my USB-C SSD run at full speed through this adapter?
If the computer has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, yes: the adapter is rated for the full 10 Gbps. On a blue USB 3.0 port the drive runs at 5 Gbps and on a black USB 2.0 port at 480 Mbit/s, because the adapter can only pass through what the host port supports.
Can I use it to connect a USB-C monitor or dock to my laptop?
No. USB-A ports carry no DisplayPort Alt Mode signal, so i-tec explicitly rules out video with this adapter. A monitor or full dock needs a USB-C or Thunderbolt port on the computer, or a dedicated graphics adapter with its own chipset.
