The ICY DOCK EZConvert MB882SP-1S-1B carries one 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drive into an internal 3.5-inch bay. Unlike the open-frame models in the same family it is an enclosed converter: the drive slides into a metal tray inside a plastic shell and a hinged top door closes over it, which protects the drive in a chassis that is opened often and keeps dust off the electronics. Electrically the converter is passive — the drive keeps its own 22-pin SATA edge in the 3.5-inch position, so the host sees the real drive, hot-swap works as it would with a native 3.5-inch disk, and there is nothing to configure. Four mounting screws are supplied.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Drive height: two official figures, and the difference matters. ICY DOCK’s specification table for this model gives a range up to 12.5 mm, while the product introduction and the manufacturer’s own FAQ for the same part say it supports 7–9.5 mm 2.5-inch drives. Both are ICY DOCK statements and they do not agree, so we publish both and recommend planning around 9.5 mm as the safe figure. If your drive is 12.5 mm, tell us the model before ordering and we will check it with the distributor — or choose the open-frame MB882SP-1S-3B, which is rated to 15 mm and has no such ambiguity. Two further points: this converter does not support the SATA 3.3 / SAS 3.0 Power Disable feature, so a PWDIS enterprise drive will not spin up in it; and while single-channel SAS is supported, a SAS drive still needs a SAS host controller and will not work from a motherboard SATA port. No cables are in the box.

Enclosed, with a sliding tray
The drive sits in a metal tray that slides out from under a hinged top door, so fitting it does not mean wrestling a bare disk into a frame. Once closed, the body shields the drive’s circuitry from dust and from knocks while the case is open — the practical difference between this and the open-air models in the family.
Passive, so nothing limits the drive
There is no bridge chip. The drive’s own 7-pin data and 15-pin power connectors are simply held where a 3.5-inch drive would put them. SATA runs at up to 6 Gbps and single-channel SAS at up to 24 Gbps on a SAS host, both limited by the drive and controller rather than by the converter, and the host reports the drive by its real model name.
Fits a hot-swap backplane
Because the connector lands in the 3.5-inch position, a 3.5-inch SATA or SAS backplane mates with it and hot-swap behaves exactly as it does for a native 3.5-inch disk. The converter is 145 × 101 × 25 mm and 200 g, the same footprint the bay already expects.
