ICY DOCK EZ-Slide Micro MB996TK-B — Lockable Spare Tray for ToughArmor
Metal keylockFits nine cage familiesUp to 9.5 mm drives52.5 g
The ICY DOCK EZ-Slide Micro MB996TK-B is the lockable version of the Micro drive tray for ICY DOCK ToughArmor 2.5-inch racks. Mechanically it is the same carrier as the MB992TRAY-B — the same 117.4 × 69.8 × 11.5 mm metal body, the same nine cage families, the same 9.5 mm drive limit — with a metal lock added, and 1 g heavier for it. Choose it wherever a drive should not come out by hand: a machine in a shared office, a rack that travels, or a set of disks that must stay put while the system is running. Buy one per drive and swapping storage becomes a matter of turning a key and pulling a tray.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Fits: ToughArmor MB092, MB111, MB118, MB411, MB604, MB608, MB839, MB992 and MB996 series racks — the same list as the unlocked MB992TRAY-B. One explicit exception: ICY DOCK states that this tray is not compatible with the MB411SPO-2B, even though other MB411 cages are on the list; that model takes the MB993TP-B instead. So the full cage suffix matters, not just the family number. The Micro tray does not interchange with the other EZ-Slide sizes — the Nano (MB998TK-B) is about 2 mm wider and takes 7 mm drives, the Mini (MB994TK-B) is thicker and takes up to 15 mm — and none of the three will seat in another’s cage. Drive limit here is 9.5 mm. ICY DOCK does not publish a package contents list or a key count for this tray, so we state neither; if the number of keys matters for your job, ask us and we will confirm with the distributor before the order goes out.
Best For
✓ Machines in shared offices or public-facing rooms
✓ Racks that travel, where a latch alone can be knocked open
✓ Adding spare trays to a ToughArmor 2.5-inch rack
✓ 9.5 mm laptop hard disks as well as 7 mm SSDs
✓ Replacing a tray lost or damaged during service
✓ Sets of drives that must stay seated while the system runs
Key Features
The lock is the whole difference
Body, dimensions, cage list and drive support are identical to the unlocked MB992TRAY-B. What this tray adds is a metal lock, and 1 g of weight. If nobody but you touches the machine, the plain tray does the same job for less; if the machine is anywhere other people can reach, the lock is the reason to be here.
The broadest fit in the EZ-Slide range
Nine ToughArmor cage families take the Micro tray — MB092, MB111, MB118, MB411, MB604, MB608, MB839, MB992 and MB996 — with the MB411SPO-2B as the single documented exception. That breadth makes it worth stocking a few if you run more than one ICY DOCK rack.
Nine and a half millimetres, in metal
The Micro profile takes drives up to 9.5 mm, so it handles older 9.5 mm laptop hard disks as well as modern 7 mm SSDs — the 7 mm Nano trays will not. The carrier is metal rather than plastic, in keeping with the ToughArmor line, and weighs 52.5 g.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference from MB992TRAY-B?
The keylock, and nothing else that matters. Same metal body, same 117.4 × 69.8 × 11.5 mm dimensions, same nine cage families, same 9.5 mm drive limit. This one weighs 1 g more because of the lock. Pick by whether the drive needs to be secured, not by anything else.
Which cages does it fit?
ToughArmor MB092, MB111, MB118, MB411, MB604, MB608, MB839, MB992 and MB996 series racks — with the MB411SPO-2B explicitly excluded by ICY DOCK. Read the full model number off the front of the cage and send it to us if you are unsure which variant you have.
How many keys come with it?
ICY DOCK does not publish a package contents list for this tray, so we will not state a number. If the key count matters for your job, ask us before ordering and we will confirm it with the distributor.
Will a 12.5 mm or 15 mm drive fit?
No. The Micro tray takes drives up to 9.5 mm. For thicker 2.5-inch drives you need the EZ-Slide Mini family and a cage that accepts it — tell us your cage model and we will check.
Singular Expert Insight
The lock changes who can take the drive out, not how well anything works, so the decision is about the room rather than about the hardware. A rack in a locked server cupboard rarely needs it; a workstation in an open office or a machine that goes out on site does. One practical note if you mix the two: locked and unlocked Micro trays fit the same cages interchangeably, so you can secure only the drives that matter and use plain trays for the rest. The one thing to check either way is the cage suffix, because the MB411SPO-2B is carved out of an otherwise consistent list. For the drives, our
internal SSDs range covers the 2.5-inch models these racks take, and
HDD and SSD enclosures covers the cages themselves.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You own a ToughArmor MB092, MB111, MB118, MB411, MB604, MB608, MB839, MB992 or MB996 rack, your drives are 2.5-inch up to 9.5 mm, and the drive needs to be locked in rather than latched.
Skip it if
Your cage is the MB411SPO-2B — that needs the MB993TP-B. Your drives are thicker than 9.5 mm. Or nobody else touches the machine, in which case the cheaper MB992TRAY-B does the same job.
