The Intellinet 508766 is a 10 Gbit SFP+ transceiver for multimode fibre, reaching 300 m at 850 nm on 50/125 µm fibre over a duplex LC connection, with digital diagnostics. Intellinet programs it as an equivalent of the HPE J9150A, J9150D, JD092A and JD092B, so HPE ProCurve, Aruba and Comware switches that use those parts accept it. In practice, multimode optics are the cheaper choice for links inside one building: most server rooms and floor risers already carry OM3 or OM4 fibre, and the module plus a short patch cord is all a port needs. Before you order, check the fibre grade printed on the cable jacket and the real length of the run, including patch panels.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is HPE-coded — for Cisco switches Intellinet’s 507462 is the Cisco-coded SR module, and the 508759 is the HPE-coded single-mode LR version. Reach drops sharply on older fibre: 300 m on 50/125 µm but only 33 m on 62.5/125 µm. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
