The Intellinet 508735 is a Gigabit SFP transceiver for single-mode fibre, coded for HPE: 1000BASE-LX at 1310 nm over an LC duplex connection, up to 10 km on 9/125 µm fibre, with digital diagnostics and an 11 dB power budget. It reports itself as an HPE J4859A/B/C/D, so HPE and Aruba switches that check optics accept it. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is coded for HPE J4859-series optics; Intellinet makes no Cisco or generic-MSA claim for this part. It needs single-mode fibre on two strands and an LX module at the far end. Do not confuse it with 508742, the HPE-coded multimode SX module — the two cannot share a fibre. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
