Jabra Engage 45 SE — Convertible DECT Headset with Desk Phone Base

Base unit and power supply includedDECT up to 100 mUp to 9 h talk timeBusylight and SafeTone 2.0

The Jabra Engage 45 SE is a DECT wireless headset sold as a complete desk phone solution: the headset, its own base unit and the power supply all come in the box, along with the cable that connects the base to the headset port on your phone. This article, 9655-523-111, is the convertible version, weighing 21 g with up to 9 h of talk time and a DECT range of up to 100 m. The SE generation is the one with USB-C charging on both the headset and the dock.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Read this before ordering. The base unit supplied here is designed for a desk phone: it connects to the phone’s headset port with the included adapter cable. If your phone has no headset port you also need a GN1000 handset lifter, and for remote call answer an EHS adapter that depends on the phone model — neither is in this box. For a computer or softphone, the base is not the answer either: the USB-C port on the base is for configuration and firmware only, so you would need a Jabra Link 400 USB adapter or an Engage 65 base unit, both sold separately. Finally, DECT is region-specific: this article ends in 111, the EMEA article, and the North American version of the same headset ends in 125 — ordering across regions gives you the wrong DECT band. The convertible version is the lightest in the range at 21 g, but its battery is not user-replaceable and its DECT range is 100 m rather than 150 m. The neckband is an accessory, not part of the box.

Best For

✓ Desk phone users who want a cordless headset and a base in one box
✓ Walking around the office while on a call, up to 100 m
✓ Open-plan desks that need a busylight as a do-not-disturb sign
✓ Call handling where FIPS-grade DECT encryption is required
✓ People who cannot stand a headband all day and want an ear hook
✓ Replacing an ageing corded headset without replacing the phone

Key Features

Base unit and power supply in the box
This is a complete desk phone package, not just a headset: base unit, power supply and the phone adapter cable are all included. You plug the base into the phone’s headset port and you are working.

DECT range up to 100 m
Jabra publishes up to 100 m line of sight, so you can leave the desk and stay on the call. Building structure and the density of other wireless kit around you will shorten that in practice, and the base has a setting that trades range against density.

Secure by design
Jabra publishes DECT Security Step C using FIPS-approved algorithms for key generation, payload encryption and authentication, described as military-grade 256-bit encryption. PeakStop and Jabra SafeTone 2.0 handle the hearing-protection side.

Busylight and 9 h of talk time
The built-in busylight acts as a do-not-disturb sign so colleagues can see you are on a call. Jabra publishes up to 9 h of talk time per charge, and the headset weighs just 21 g, which is the lightest option in the range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this headset with my computer as well as the phone?
Not out of the box. The base included here is a desk phone base and its USB-C port is for configuration and firmware, not audio. Jabra does state that the headset works with the Engage 55 USB adapter, the Link 400, and with an Engage 65 base — but those are separate purchases. If the computer is the main target, tell us and we will point you at a USB or Bluetooth model instead.
Will it work with any desk phone?
It connects to a phone that has a headset port, using the adapter cable in the box. If the phone has no headset port you also need a GN1000 handset lifter so the base can lift the handset, and to answer calls away from the desk you need an EHS adapter matched to your phone. Send us the phone model and we will tell you exactly which parts you need.
What does the SE in the name change?
Jabra publishes exactly one difference: the SE generation has USB-C charging ports on both the headset and the docking station as standard. Nothing else is published as changed, so treat the rest of the specification as the same.
Which wearing styles are actually in the box?
A headband and an ear hook, plus three sets of EarGels so you can fit the ear piece properly. The neckband is a separate accessory and is not included. You can wear it on either ear.
Singular Expert Insight
The Engage 45 SE is the one to buy when the phone on the desk is staying and the corded headset is going. Base, power supply and phone cable are all in the box, so there is nothing else to order — unless your phone has no headset port, in which case a handset lifter or an EHS adapter joins the list. The mono version, 9653-523-111, is the one to take if call quality and runtime matter more than weight: two microphones instead of one, 13 hours instead of 9, 150 m instead of 100 m, and a user-replaceable battery. The two mistakes we see are ordering it for a computer, which needs a Link 400 or an Engage 65 base that is not included, and ordering the 125 article, which is the North American DECT band. If the target is actually a softphone, our Office & VoIP Headsets range has the USB and Bluetooth models that plug straight into a laptop, and Headphones covers the analogue boom-mic options. Send us the exact desk phone model and we will confirm the cable and the article number before you order.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

Your calls come through a desk phone with a headset port, you want to walk away from the desk while talking, and you want the base and the cable in the same box rather than as three separate orders. At 21 g with an ear hook option, this is the version for people who cannot wear a headband all day.

Skip it if

Your calls come through a computer or a softphone — this base does not carry PC audio and the Link 400 adapter is not included. Skip it too if your phone has no headset port and you were not planning to buy a handset lifter, or if you need active noise cancellation. And skip it if you want a swappable battery or the longer 150 m range, both of which belong to the mono and stereo versions.

Also consider

Engage 45 SE Mono 9653-523-111 for the dual-microphone set, a user-replaceable battery and 150 m of range, the Engage 55 range for computer-connected DECT, or an Evolve2 model if the calls are on a softphone.
