Kingston Server Premier 16GB DDR5-4800 Server RDIMM
16GBDDR5-4800 CL401.1VRegistered ECC
The Kingston Server Premier KSM48R40BS8-16HA is a 16GB 288-pin registered ECC DDR5 server DIMM (RDIMM) rated at 4800 MT/s with CL40 latency at 1.1V, for DDR5 servers that take registered ECC memory.
It comes as one 16GB module, giving 16GB in total and up to 38.4 GB/s of peak bandwidth per module (PC5-38400). The registering clock driver buffers command and address signals, so a server can run many high-capacity DIMMs per channel, while ECC corrects single-bit errors before they reach your data.
Typical uses: virtualization hosts, database and file servers, and any rack or tower server where uptime and data integrity matter more than the last few percent of speed.
Before you order: Registered (RDIMM) memory works only in servers and workstations whose platform supports DDR5 RDIMM. It will not work in desktop PCs, laptops or ECC UDIMM workstations, and it cannot be mixed with unbuffered modules.
What's in the Box
- 1 × 16GB DDR5 RDIMM module
- Manufacturer packaging — memory installs tool-free into the slot, no cables or drivers needed
What It Means in Practice
- It runs at JEDEC 4800 MT/s CL40 — the server applies the speed automatically, limited by the CPU and by how many DIMMs per channel are installed.
- Server memory performs best with every memory channel populated evenly — fill channels in identical sets, following the server’s population guide.
- 16GB is the sweet spot for everyday work, Office and most games, with room for a browser full of tabs alongside.
- Install with the server powered off and unplugged, following the vendor’s DIMM population order; the BIOS/BMC will report the new capacity and any configuration warning at the next boot.
- After the first boot, check the memory event log in the BMC (iDRAC, iLO, XClarity or similar) — corrected ECC events are logged there, which is useful for spotting a failing module early.
What Will Not Work
- Desktop PCs and laptops (they need unbuffered DIMM or SO-DIMM)
- Workstations that only accept ECC UDIMM
- DDR4 servers — DDR5 RDIMM is keyed differently
- Mixing with RDIMMs of a different rank/organization in the same channel group (follow the server vendor’s population rules)
Key Features
4800 MT/s · CL40
Rated 4800 MT/s (PC5-38400) with 40-39-39 timings at 1.1V.
16GB module
Single 16GB module, 1Rx8, 16Gbit Hynix A-die.
ECC data integrity
Registered ECC (EC8) with on-die ECC inside the DRAM — errors are corrected before they reach applications or storage.
Server Premier consistency
Kingston Server Premier uses controlled BOMs with locked DRAM die revisions and is platform-validated with Intel and AMD — useful when adding modules to an existing server later.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know my server takes this exact module?
Check the server’s memory guide for DDR5 RDIMM at 4800 MT/s and the supported module capacity (16GB, 1Rx8). Send us the server model and we confirm it against Kingston’s configurator.
Will it run at 4800 MT/s in every server?
Not always. The CPU generation and the number of DIMMs per channel set the actual speed; a faster module simply runs at the speed the platform allows.
Can I add it to modules already installed?
Only if they match: same type (RDIMM), and ideally the same capacity, rank and speed. Mixing ranks or capacities can lower speed or be unsupported by the platform — tell us what is installed and we match it.
What does the warranty cover?
Lifetime warranty per Kingston (subject to local definitions). Singular adds its own 1-year warranty and handles any claim for you — bring or send us the module and we take care of the manufacturer process.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For servers, buy memory by the platform’s population rules first and by price second — identical modules in every channel give the most predictable performance and stability. Browse our full
memory (RAM) range for other capacities and speeds.
✓ Buy it if your DDR5 server takes 16GB RDIMMs at up to 4800 MT/s.
✕ Skip it if your system is a desktop or ECC UDIMM workstation.
→ Also consider higher-capacity Server Premier RDIMMs if you are short on slots.
Not sure it fits? Send us the model of your server or workstation and we will check memory compatibility before you order.
