Kingston DataTraveler SE9 G3 64 GB — 5 Grams of Gold Metal at 220 MB/s
64 GB220 MB/s read / 100 MB/s write5 g, 39 mm metal5-year Kingston warranty
The Kingston DataTraveler SE9 G3 is a 64 GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive in a slim gold metal casing 39 mm long and weighing 5 g, with a keyring loop. Kingston publishes both halves of the speed — up to 220 MB/s read and 100 MB/s write — which puts it among the quicker sticks at this size, and backs it with a five-year warranty and free technical support.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a USB Type-A drive with no USB-C connector, so it does not reach a phone or a USB-C-only laptop without an adapter, and none is supplied. Mind the generation. The DataTraveler SE9 G2 is a visually similar metal drive but USB 3.0 and considerably slower, and the original SE9 is USB 2.0. All three are small metal sticks and photographs will not separate them — the G3 in the part number is what tells you this is the 220 MB/s one. Note also that Kingston lists Windows 11 and does not list Windows 10 for this model, along with macOS 13.7.6 and later, Linux 4.4x and later and ChromeOS. The drive is plain USB mass storage with no drivers, so older systems mount it as removable storage in practice, but we can only report what Kingston states. Finally, this retail part number, DTSE9G3/64GB, is the same specification as the channel code KE-U2X64-1AC that circulates in distribution — different box, identical published figures.
Best For
✓ Everyday transport where 220 MB/s read genuinely saves time
✓ Keyring carry — the loop is part of the metal body, on a 5 g drive
✓ Anyone who wants both read and write speeds published, not just read
✓ Machines and laptops with USB-A ports
✓ Handing large folders between desks without waiting
✓ Buyers who want a five-year manufacturer term with technical support
Key Features
220 read, 100 write — both published
Kingston states both figures for this part number. A great many flash brands publish read only, so you can judge the slower half of the job before you buy rather than after.
5 grams of metal
A premium metal casing 39 x 12.2 x 4.6 mm weighing 5 g. Thin enough that it will not block the port beside it, and rigid enough not to flex in a bag.
Keyring loop
Kingston builds a loop into the body. On a drive this small and this light, an attachment point is what keeps it from disappearing.
No drivers, no software
It mounts as ordinary removable storage on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Nothing to install and nothing to register.

Singular Expert Insight
This is one of the few sticks at this size where the manufacturer publishes both read and write, and 220 with 100 is genuinely quick for a 5 g metal drive with a keyring loop. That combination — small, fast, published, five years of cover — makes it an easy recommendation for anyone still working with USB-A ports, and the gold finish means you will actually find it in a drawer of black sticks. The one thing to watch is the generation: SE9 and SE9 G2 look the same and are much slower. If you need a USB-C end as well, the dual-connector models in our USB flash drives range cover that, and for large working files an external SSD is the right class of product.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a fast, tiny, metal USB-A stick with a keyring loop, you value having both read and write published, and a five-year Kingston term suits you.
Skip it if
You need a USB-C connector for a phone or a modern laptop. Or you would rather have a larger-bodied drive that is easier to grip out of a tight port.
Also consider
Kingston DataTraveler microDuo 3C G3 if you need USB-A and USB-C in one body. Kingston DataTraveler Micro for an even smaller drive meant to stay in the port. SanDisk Ultra Luxe for a comparable metal USB-A stick.
