Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5-8400 CL40 — 24GB
24GBDDR5-8400 CL40Intel XMP 3.0Black & Silver
The Kingston FURY Renegade KF584CU40RS-24 is a single 24GB module of DDR5 desktop memory in CUDIMM (clocked unbuffered) format rated at 8400 MT/s with CL40-52-52 timings at 1.45V, aimed at enthusiasts building on Intel Z890 boards with Intel Core Ultra (Series 2) processors who want the highest memory bandwidth.
Out of the box it boots at the default 6400 CL52-52-52 at 1.1V; the rated 8400 MT/s speed is applied by enabling the Intel XMP 3.0 profile in the BIOS. The black & silver heat spreader has no RGB lighting, for a clean, lower-profile build.
CUDIMM modules add a clock driver that keeps the signal clean at very high data rates, which is what lets Intel 800-series platforms reach speeds beyond 8000 MT/s. As a single 24GB module, it suits upgrades where one slot is free or builds that will add a second identical module.
Before you order: CUDIMM for Intel 800-series (Z890) motherboards with Intel Core Ultra (Series 2) processors — Kingston certifies the XMP profiles there. On older DDR5 platforms Kingston states that, after a BIOS update, the board disables the clock driver and the module runs at the speed that platform supports, not 8400 MT/s. Kingston does not publish AMD support for this module.
What's in the Box
- 1 x 24GB Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 module (black & silver)
- Manufacturer retail packaging
- No screws, cables or drivers needed — memory installs straight into the DIMM slots
What It Means in Practice
- First boot runs at 6400 CL52-52-52 at 1.1V. Enable Intel XMP 3.0 in the BIOS to get 8400 MT/s — skipping this step is the most common reason new memory “feels slow”.
- One 24GB module runs in single-channel. For dual-channel bandwidth add a second identical module — two separate modules are not factory-tested as a pair the way a kit is.
- Module height is 39.2 mm including the heat spreader — check clearance under large air coolers whose front fan overhangs the memory slots.
- Adding more modules later is possible on four-slot boards, but four DDR5 modules usually run at lower speeds than two; if you need more than 48GB, buying the full capacity as one kit is the safer route.
- Update the motherboard BIOS before fitting new DDR5. The first boot after installing memory can take noticeably longer while the board trains the memory — this is normal, not a fault.
- 24GB per module sits between the 16GB and 32GB sizes; two modules give 48GB, a useful step for heavier multitasking and content work.
- 8400 MT/s needs a CPU memory controller and board that can run it; Kingston also includes 8000 and 7600 MT/s XMP profiles as fallbacks if your system is not stable at 8400.
What Will Not Work
- DDR4 motherboards — DDR5 modules are keyed differently and will not physically fit.
- Laptops, mini PCs and all-in-ones that use SO-DIMM or soldered memory — this is a full-size 288-pin desktop module.
- Servers and workstations that require registered (RDIMM) or ECC memory — this is non-ECC clocked unbuffered memory (on-die ECC only).
- Reaching 8400 MT/s on platforms older than Intel 800-series — the clock driver is disabled there and the module runs at the platform’s own supported speed.
- Guaranteed rated speed with four modules installed — the rated profile is validated for the module, not for mixed or four-module setups.
Key Features
Rated 8400 MT/s CL40
CL40-52-52 timings at 1.45V through the Intel XMP 3.0 profile, for higher bandwidth and lower latency than stock DDR5.
Intel XMP 3.0
One-click rated speed on Intel boards, with two further validated profiles as fallback.
Non-RGB heat spreader
Black & Silver heat spreader with no lighting and a 39.2 mm height for good cooler clearance.
CUDIMM with clock driver
A client clock driver on the module redrives the clock signal for stable operation at 6400 MT/s and above.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it run at 8400 MT/s straight away?
No — it starts at 6400 CL52-52-52 at 1.1V. Enable Intel XMP 3.0 in the BIOS. Whether a specific system holds 8400 MT/s depends on the CPU memory controller and motherboard; the board maker’s QVL is the reference.
What is a CUDIMM?
A clocked unbuffered DIMM: a clock driver chip on the module redrives the clock signal from the processor for better signal integrity at 6400 MT/s and above. Intel 800-series is the first platform to use it.
Should I buy one or two?
Two, if your board has free slots and you want dual-channel bandwidth. One module works, but runs single-channel.
Why does the first boot take so long after installing it?
DDR5 systems run memory training on first boot (and after BIOS changes) to calibrate the modules. It can take a minute or more and the screen may stay black — let it finish before assuming a fault.
