LaCie d2 Professional 4TB — Desktop USB-C Hard Drive with IronWolf Pro
Desktop external HDD4TB IronWolf ProUSB-C 10GbpsFanless aluminium enclosure
The LaCie d2 Professional 4TB (STHA4000800) is a desktop external hard drive for creative professionals and offices that want a quiet, always-connected backup or archive drive: an enterprise-class Seagate IronWolf Pro disk in a fanless aluminium enclosure, connected by a single USB-C cable.
It runs on its own power supply rather than USB bus power, so it stays stable for long backups and large file copies, and it works with Mac, Windows and iPad over USB-C, Thunderbolt or USB4 ports.
Before you order: Only a USB-C to USB-C cable is included. If your computer has only USB-A ports, you need a USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter, which is not in the box. The drive also needs a mains socket — it is not bus-powered.
What's in the Box
- LaCie d2 Professional 4TB
- External power supply
- USB-C cable (USB 10Gb/s)
- Quick Install Guide
- Rescue Data Recovery Services plan (not available in all countries)
What It Means in Practice
- As a Time Machine or Windows File History target it sits on the desk and backs up automatically; reformat it for macOS first if you use Time Machine.
- The enterprise-class IronWolf Pro drive is built for continuous operation, which suits archive and surveillance-export use better than a portable drive.
- The fanless aluminium case dissipates heat passively, so there is no fan noise next to you.
- It ships formatted exFAT, readable on both macOS and Windows without extra software.
What Will Not Work
- USB-A-only computers out of the box — a USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter is needed and not included.
- Running without mains power — it needs its external power supply.
- Card readers, USB hub ports or laptop charging — this is a plain drive, not a dock.
- Network sharing for several users — it is direct-attached storage, not a NAS.

Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The d2 Professional is a simple, quiet desk drive with an enterprise-class disk inside — the sensible choice for a fixed backup target. If you need card readers or laptop charging, step up to the 1big Dock; if you carry your data around, browse our external hard drives for portable models.

✕ Skip it if you need a portable drive, RAID mirroring or a dock with card readers.
→ Also consider LaCie 1big Dock (dock + readers) or LaCie 2big Dock (RAID 1 mirroring).
