The Lanberg NC-1000-02 is a USB-C (USB 3.1 Gen 1) to RJ45 Gigabit network adapter on a 15 cm cable, built on the Realtek RTL8153 chipset. It plugs into a USB-C port and gives a laptop, ultrabook, tablet or desktop PC a wired Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps) connection through one RJ45 socket. It is made for modern ultrabooks, MacBooks and tablets that have only USB-C ports. It is powered by the port, supports PXE boot and Wake-on-LAN, and runs half and full duplex. A cable connection is the practical answer when Wi-Fi is weak or crowded, when a laptop has no network port, when the built-in port has failed, or when a PC needs a second network interface.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Compatibility — check before buying: USB-C plug only: it will not fit a USB-A port on an older PC unless you add a USB-C to USB-A adapter; any USB-C data port works, video (DP Alt Mode) is not needed. For true Gigabit the adapter needs a USB 3.x port (usually blue or marked SS); on a USB 2.0 port it still works but tops out at roughly 300 Mbps. The switch or router port and the cable (Cat5e or better) must also be Gigabit. Lanberg lists Windows 7, 8 and 10 and Mac OS; Windows 11 and Linux are not in the official list. Will I get full Gigabit speed?
Yes, when the adapter is in a USB 3.x port and the switch or router port and the cable are Gigabit. On USB 2.0 it runs, but slower.
Do I need to install a driver?
Lanberg describes it as plug and play with no software needed; a driver download is also offered on lanberg.eu for older systems.
Will it work in a Thunderbolt port?
Thunderbolt 3/4 ports also accept USB-C devices, so yes in normal use. A data-capable USB-C port is enough; video support is not needed.
Can I use it with a docking station or hub?
Yes, if the hub or dock port is USB 3.x for full Gigabit speed. Many docking stations already have their own RJ45 port, so check the dock first.
