The LANCOM 1800EFW-5G (EU) is an SD-WAN gateway for branch offices and small businesses that combines a fibre-ready SFP/copper combo WAN port, a built-in 5G/LTE modem with 4x4 MIMO, four Gigabit Ethernet ports and dual-band Wi-Fi 6 in one wall-mountable unit.
It runs LANCOM’s LCOS operating system with a stateful firewall and 5 concurrent VPN tunnels (IPsec, WireGuard, L2TP, PPTP), expandable to 25, and can be managed centrally from the LANCOM Management Cloud. LANCOM is now part of Rohde & Schwarz, so the device may also carry the R&S LANCOM name.
Before you order: The fibre connection needs an SFP module (sold separately, e.g. LANCOM SFP-SX, SFP-LX or GPON ONT) and the mobile link needs a SIM or eSIM from your operator — neither is included. SD-WAN functions require a LANCOM Management Cloud licence.

What It Means in Practice
- Primary internet over fibre or a modem/ONT on the combo WAN port, with 5G as automatic backup — or 5G as the only link where there is no fixed line.
- Up to three of the four LAN ports can be turned into extra WAN ports for load balancing between providers.
- Wi-Fi 6 for a small office directly from the gateway: up to 1,200 Mbps (5 GHz) and 575 Mbps (2.4 GHz) PHY rates, up to 14 SSIDs, WPA3.
- Five site-to-site or remote-access VPN tunnels out of the box, 25 with the LANCOM VPN-25 option.
What Will Not Work
- Fibre without an SFP module — modules are not included.
- Mobile internet without a SIM/eSIM data plan from an operator.
- 2G (GSM) networks — the modem supports 5G, LTE and UMTS only.
- More than 5 VPN tunnels, content filtering or SD-WAN orchestration without the matching LANCOM licence.

The 1800EFW-5G is for offices that cannot afford to be offline: fibre or VDSL as the main line, 5G taking over automatically, plus Wi-Fi 6 and VPN in one managed box. Plan the SFP module and SIM with it. Compare with our other routers if you only need a fixed-line router.
