LevelOne ESP-2400 — 24-Port PoE Surge Protector, 6 kV, 19" Rack
24 channels6 kV surge protectionPoE pass-through ≤30 W19" rack kit
The LevelOne ESP-2400 is a 24-channel Ethernet and PoE surge protector that sits between your PoE switch and the cables running out to cameras, access points and phones, absorbing voltage spikes from lightning-induced surges before they reach the switch. It is aimed at installers protecting outdoor CCTV, perimeter access points and long cable runs between buildings.
Each channel has an RJ45 IN and OUT, passes IEEE 802.3af/at PoE up to 30 W, and protects up to 6 kV common mode (2 kV differential) with a 150 A peak discharge current and sub-nanosecond response time. Ports are isolated from each other, the metal housing mounts in a 19-inch rack with the supplied kit, and a ground wire connects it to the rack's earth.
Before you order: Protects PoE on pins 1, 2, 3 and 6 only (End-Span / Mode A). Midspan or Mode B PoE (pins 4/5/7/8) and 802.3bt (60/90 W) are not supported. LevelOne specifies up to 68 MHz bandwidth and does not quote Gigabit — for Gigabit links, ask us first.
What's in the Box
- LevelOne ESP-2400 rack PoE surge protector
- Grounding wire
- 19" rack mount kit
- Quick Installation Guide
What It Means in Practice
- Install it next to the PoE switch in the rack: patch each switch port to an IN port and each outgoing field cable to the matching OUT port.
- Proper earthing is essential — the protector only works when its ground wire is connected to a grounded rack.
- A green LED per port shows when PoE is present on pins 1/2/3/6, handy for quick checks during installation.
- For devices without built-in surge protection at the far end (e.g. outdoor cameras), LevelOne recommends adding a protector at the device side too.
- Rated for -40 to 85 °C operation, so it tolerates hot cabinets.
What Will Not Work
- Does not pass or protect Mode B / midspan PoE on pins 4, 5, 7, 8.
- Not for PoE++ (802.3bt) devices or anything above 30 W per port.
- Gigabit performance is not specified by LevelOne (bandwidth up to 68 MHz).
- Will not protect anything if it is not grounded.
- Not a mains surge protector — it protects data/PoE lines only.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to ground it?
Yes. Connect the supplied ground wire to an earthed rack; without grounding the surge energy has nowhere to go.
Will it work with my PoE switch?
If the switch uses End-Span PoE on pins 1/2/3/6 (the standard for most 802.3af/at switches) and stays at or below 30 W per port, yes. Midspan injectors using spare pairs are not supported.
Does it slow the network?
LevelOne publishes 68 MHz bandwidth and <0.2 dB insertion loss; it does not state Gigabit support. Send us your switch model if you need Gigabit on these lines.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For outdoor cameras and links between buildings, a surge protector in the rack is cheap insurance for an expensive PoE switch. Ground it properly and check your PoE mode before ordering. More rack hardware in our
rack accessories.
✓ Buy it if you run many PoE lines outdoors or between buildings and want to protect the switch in the rack.
✕ Skip it if your PoE uses pins 4/5/7/8 or 802.3bt, or you need guaranteed Gigabit on every line.
→ Also consider a single-port PoE surge protector at each outdoor camera for two-sided protection.
Send us your PoE switch model and the devices on the protected lines and we will confirm PoE mode and speed before you order.
