The LevelOne FVT-1101 is a Fast Ethernet media converter that turns a 10/100Base-TX RJ45 copper connection into 100Base-FX over multimode (50/125 or 62.5/125 µm) fibre with an SC connector, extending a network link up to 2 km at 1310 nm.
It is the simple way to reach another building or a distant cabinet over existing multimode fibre, and it can run standalone on a desk or wall, or slide into a 19-inch converter chassis for centralised wiring.
Before you order: the fibre side is 100Base-FX, multimode, SC, 1310 nm. The device at the other end must match all four — speed, fibre type, connector (or a suitable patch cord) and wavelength.

What It Means in Practice
- Plug the RJ45 port into your switch or PC (10/100 auto-sensing, full/half duplex) and the SC port into the fibre via an SC duplex multimode patch cord.
- At the far end you need the same fibre interface: a second FVT-1101 (or another multimode SC converter at 1310 nm) or a switch port with a matching 100BASE-FX optic.
- Up to 2 km is the maximum the manufacturer publishes; real reach depends on fibre quality, splices and connectors along the way.
- It is a plug-and-play, unmanaged converter: no IP address or configuration, it simply passes Ethernet frames between copper and fibre.
What Will Not Work
- Gigabit links — the fibre side is fixed at 100 Mbps; a 1000BASE-X SFP port on a switch will not link to it.
- Single-mode (OS2) fibre — use the FVT-1102 for single-mode.
- LC-only patch panels without an SC-to-LC patch cord.
- Power over Ethernet — the RJ45 port neither supplies nor takes PoE power.
- VLAN, monitoring or any managed features — this is an unmanaged converter.
