LevelOne FVT-2202 — BIDI Fast Ethernet Media Converter Set, RJ45 to SC, One Single-Mode Fibre, 20 km
Set of 2 convertersOne fibre · BIDISC single-mode · 20 kmLFP · DIP switches
The LevelOne FVT-2202 is a matched pair of Fast Ethernet media converters that links two 10/100Base-TX copper networks over a single strand of single-mode fibre, up to 20 km apart. Bi-directional (BIDI) optics send and receive on different wavelengths — 1310 nm and 1550 nm — so the link needs one fibre instead of the usual two. It is ideal where fibre is scarce or leased per strand, or where an existing pair needs to carry two separate links.
Both ends come in the box, already matched, each with its own power adapter. Connect each unit's RJ45 port to a switch or device and the SC port to the fibre; Link Fault Pass-through (LFP) signals a broken link to both copper ends, and DIP switches allow manual speed and duplex settings where needed. The units are unmanaged and run at 100 Mbps.
Before you order: This is a set: the two units use opposite wavelengths and only work with each other (or with an equivalent 1310/1550 nm BIDI 100Base-FX partner). It will not link to a standard two-fibre converter, to multi-mode fibre, or to Gigabit fibre ports. The SC connector is simplex — one fibre per unit.
What's in the Box
- 2 × LevelOne FVT-2202 media converters (matched BIDI pair)
- 2 × power adapters
- 1 × Quick Installation Guide
- Fibre patch cords are not included
What It Means in Practice
- You get both ends of the link in one order — install one unit at each site and connect them with one single-mode fibre.
- Using one strand per link halves the fibre you need, or lets a spare strand carry a second link.
- Do not mix up the units with other BIDI pairs: each side must face its opposite wavelength.
- 100 Mbps covers CCTV, access control, building management, VoIP and small-site uplinks.
- LFP makes a fibre break visible to the switches at both ends so failover or alarms can react.
What Will Not Work
- It will not work with standard dual-fibre converters or switch SFPs that use two fibres.
- It will not work over multi-mode fibre.
- It will not run at Gigabit speed.
- It has no web/SNMP management, VLAN or OAM features.
- It does not supply PoE.
Key Features
Single-fibre link
BIDI optics at 1310/1550 nm carry full-duplex Fast Ethernet over one single-mode fibre.
Complete set

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to buy two?
No — one FVT-2202 is the complete set with both ends of the link.
Can I use one unit with my switch's BIDI SFP?
Only if the SFP is a 100Base-FX BIDI single-mode module with the opposite wavelength pairing. In most cases it is simpler to use both FVT-2202 units together.
What fibre and connectors do I need?
One single-mode fibre between the sites, with SC simplex connectors (or an SC-to-LC simplex patch cord at your patch panel).
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
BIDI sets like the FVT-2202 are the practical answer when every fibre strand counts. Because both ends come matched in one box, there is no risk of ordering the wrong wavelength pair — just make sure the copper side connects to 10/100-capable
switches or devices and that the fibre is single-mode.
✓ Buy it if you have one single-mode fibre between two sites (up to 20 km) and need a 100 Mbps Ethernet link.
✕ Skip it if you have two fibres and want to use standard converters, need Gigabit, or have multi-mode fibre.
→ Also consider LevelOne FVT-1103 (two-fibre single-mode SC, 40 km) or FVM-1220 (managed, single-mode SC, 20 km).
Tell us how many fibres you have between the sites, the fibre type and the distance, and we will confirm whether a BIDI set or a standard pair is the right choice.
