LevelOne GNC-0105T — Gigabit Ethernet for PCs with a classic PCI slot
1x RJ45 Gigabit32-bit PCIRealtek RTL8169SCLow-profile bracket included
The LevelOne GNC-0105T is a 32-bit PCI network card that adds one 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port to desktops and servers that still have a conventional PCI slot, built around the Realtek RTL8169SC controller. It is aimed at IT teams keeping older workstations, industrial PCs, point-of-sale machines and small servers in service, where the onboard LAN has failed or a second network port is needed.
LevelOne rates the card for PCI 1.0 and PCI 2.2 slots and ships it with a low-profile bracket, so it also fits slim desktop cases. Speed is negotiated automatically with the switch, and auto MDI/MDI-X means any standard patch cable works, straight or crossover. For many older machines this is the cheapest way to move from 100 Mbps to full Gigabit and cut the time it takes to back up to a NAS or copy large files across the office.
Before you order: This is a conventional PCI card, not PCI Express. It will not fit a PCIe x1/x4/x16 slot. Most motherboards made in the last decade have no PCI slot at all, so check your board before ordering. Tell us the PC or motherboard model and we will confirm.
What's in the Box
- LevelOne GNC-0105T Gigabit PCI network card
- Low-profile bracket
- Quick Installation Guide
- Resource CD with user manual and driver
- Network cable not included
What It Means in Practice
- Gives an older PCI-only desktop a working Gigabit port for file servers, NAS and modern switches.
- Replaces a dead onboard LAN without replacing the motherboard or reinstalling the system.
- Adds a second network port, for example to separate an office LAN from a camera, machine or production network.
- Low-profile bracket lets it go into slim / small form factor cases that have a PCI slot.
- Wake-on-LAN lets IT staff power the PC on remotely for overnight updates and backups, if the motherboard and BIOS support it.
- Full Gigabit speed needs a Gigabit switch port and a Cat5e or better cable end to end.
What Will Not Work
- PCI Express slots of any size (x1, x4, x8, x16) — the connector is different.
- Laptops or mini PCs without internal PCI slots.
- Speeds above 1 Gbps — this is not a 2.5G or 10G card.
- Fibre (SFP) links — the port is copper RJ45 only.
- Current Windows 11 is not in LevelOne's published OS list (up to Windows 10).
Key Features
Realtek RTL8169SC controller
A widely supported Gigabit PCI controller with drivers built into many Linux distributions and long-standing Windows support.
Business network features
Wake-on-LAN, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.1p prioritisation and 802.3x flow control are supported, per LevelOne.
Jumbo frames and EEE
Jumbo frames up to 9 KB for large transfers, plus IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet.
Two brackets
Standard bracket plus a low-profile bracket in the box, so one card covers tower and slim cases.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I tell PCI from PCIe on my motherboard?
A classic PCI slot is long (about 8.5 cm) and usually white or beige. PCIe x1 slots are short (about 2.5 cm). If you only see short or very long black/grey slots, you have PCIe and need a PCIe card instead.
Will it work in Linux without installing anything?
The RTL8169 family is supported by the r8169 driver included in mainstream Linux kernels, so most distributions detect it automatically.
Can I use it with a 2.5G or 10G switch?
Yes. The card links at up to 1 Gbps; multi-gigabit switch ports fall back to 1 Gbps automatically.
Does it work with Windows 11?
LevelOne publishes support up to Windows 10. Windows 11 is not in the official list, so we cannot promise it.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The GNC-0105T is a sensible way to keep a PCI-era desktop on a modern Gigabit network for the price of a card rather than a new PC. The only real question is the slot: if your board has PCIe, pick a PCIe model from our
network cards range instead, as it will also work in future machines. If the PC will be replaced within a year, a USB 3.0 Gigabit adapter is the more portable choice.
✓ Buy it if your PC has a free conventional PCI slot and you need a reliable Gigabit port with VLAN and Wake-on-LAN.
✕ Skip it if your motherboard only has PCIe slots, or you need Windows 11 support confirmed by the manufacturer.
→ Also consider DIGITUS DN-10130-1 or Longshine LCS-8337TXR2 for PCIe x1 slots.
Not sure which slot you have? Send us the PC or motherboard model and we will confirm which card fits before you order.
