The LevelOne GVT-2011 is a Gigabit media converter switch that joins a 10/100/1000Base-T RJ45 copper port to two SFP slots, so an Ethernet link can run over fibre where copper stops at 100 metres. It suits fibre links that need a backup path, or a small fibre junction where two fibre runs and one copper device meet.
A DIP switch selects how the two SFP ports behave. In switch mode (default) all three ports switch traffic like a small 3-port Gigabit switch. In redundant mode, SFP port F1 is the main link and F2 takes over automatically if F1 fails — LevelOne’s manual states within 10 ms. Both SFP slots take standard 1000Base-SX/LX modules, sold separately.
Before you order: no SFP modules are included. Fit Gigabit 1000Base-SX (multimode) or 1000Base-LX (single-mode) SFPs that match the far ends; for redundant mode both fibre paths must lead back to the same network.

What It Means in Practice
- Redundant mode gives a fibre link a second, independent path — if one fibre is cut or a module fails, traffic moves to the other.
- Switch mode lets you daisy-chain: one fibre in, one fibre out to the next building, and a local device on the RJ45 port.
- Optics are your choice per port, so one side can be multimode and the other single-mode.
- VLAN tags and multicast pass through, with packets up to 9,000 bytes.
What Will Not Work
- Without SFP modules — none is supplied.
- 100Base-FX or 10G SFP+ modules: the slots are 1000Base-SX/LX.
- Management or monitoring: no web interface or SNMP.
- PoE in or out on the RJ45 port.

The GVT-2011 is the inexpensive way to add a backup fibre path to a remote device without buying a managed switch. Remember the two SFPs on top of the price. If you need VLAN control, monitoring or more ports at the remote site, a small managed switch with SFP slots is the better buy — see our network switches.
