The LevelOne XEL-1291 is a 12-port Layer 3 managed 10 Gigabit switch with 8× 100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10G RJ-45 ports and 4× 1G/2.5G/10G SFP+ uplinks, designed for small server rooms, NAS/storage networks and 10G office backbones. The part number XEL-1291 refers to the 19-inch 1U rackmount version.

Its copper ports auto-negotiate from 100 Mbps up to 10 Gbps over existing Cat6/Cat6A cabling, so 10G servers, NAS units and Wi-Fi 7 access points can share one switch. A 240 Gbps non-blocking fabric keeps every port at wire speed, and dynamic routing (RIP, OSPF v2, BGP-4) lets it act as the core of a small multi-VLAN network.

Compatibility note: For full 10 Gbps over the RJ-45 ports use Cat6A (up to 100 m) or Cat6 (shorter runs). SFP+ modules and DAC cables are not included. The unit is not PoE — access points and cameras need their own power or a separate PoE switch.

Does the XEL-1291 work with my existing Cat6 cabling?
Yes. Each RJ-45 port auto-negotiates 100M to 10G. Cat6A is recommended for 10 Gbps at 100 m; Cat6 or even Cat5e will run 2.5G/5G and 10G over shorter distances.
What is the difference between the XEL-1291 and the XEL-0891?
Both are L3 Multi-Gig 10G switches with the same software. The XEL-1291 has 8 copper + 4 SFP+ ports in a 19" rack chassis with internal PSU; the XEL-0891 has 4 copper + 4 SFP+ in a fanless desktop case with external adapter.
Does the XEL-1291 support PoE?
No. It is a data-only switch. Use a separate PoE switch or injectors for access points, IP phones and cameras.

Singular Expert Insight

Genuine 10G copper plus OSPF/BGP at this port count is uncommon — most 12-port 10G switches in this class are L2+ only. It is an excellent core for a small office with a 10G NAS and a few servers; access devices can then hang off cheaper Gigabit or PoE switches.
