The Lexmark 40X7774 is the genuine ADF pick roller for the automatic document feeder of the Lexmark XM5263, XM5270, XM7263 and XM7270 mono laser multifunction printers.
The pick roller pulls the top sheet from the ADF input tray into the scanner. When its rubber hardens or wears, originals stop feeding, feed at an angle or jam at the entry of the document feeder, while copying from the flatbed glass keeps working normally.
Before you order: 40X7774 is the pick roller only — a single part. Lexmark also offers a complete ADF Maintenance Kit (40X8431) that contains a pick roller, separation roller and feed belt; choose the kit if the separation parts are also worn.

What It Means in Practice
- A worn pick roller typically causes "nothing feeds" or skewed scans from the ADF, while flatbed scanning still works.
- If the ADF also pulls several sheets at once, the separation roller is likely worn too — consider the full ADF maintenance kit.
- Clean the ADF rollers before replacing them; dirty rubber can cause the same symptoms.
- Lexmark publishes a "Replacing the ADF pick roller" procedure in the printer user guide.
What Will Not Work
- It does not fix paper-tray feeding problems in the printer engine.
- It does not replace the ADF separation roller or feed belt.
- It does not fit the MX720/MX820 or CX820/CX860 series, which use the 41X0358 roller.
- It will not fix lines in copies, which come from dirty scanner glass.
