The G840 is the desk-sized member of the family: Logitech publishes it as 900 mm wide, 400 mm deep and 3 mm thick, built from a cloth surface with a rubber base. At that size the keyboard, the mouse and both forearms sit on one uninterrupted surface, which is the entire reason to buy an XL mat — no seam or edge in the middle of a movement, and no half of the mouse mat and half of the bare desk under your wrists. It is plain black with no artwork and no lighting, and Logitech covers its mouse pads with a 2-year limited hardware warranty. This is the one to choose in the range if space, not cushioning, is what you are after.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Measure the desk first: 900 mm wide by 400 mm deep covers most of a standard desktop and will overhang the front edge of a shallow one. At 3 mm it lies flat and adds almost no height, but that also means no cushioning — if a hard desk is your complaint rather than a lack of space, the 5 mm G740 is the answer instead. There is no wrist rest and no lighting.
