The Logitech Z906 is a six-piece THX-certified 5.1 system: four satellites, a centre speaker, an 8.54 kg subwoofer and a separate control console that does the switching. It puts out 500W RMS across the six channels and decodes Dolby Digital and DTS on board, so a console, a television, a Blu-ray player and a PC can all be connected at once and switched from the console or the supplied wireless remote. Compatibility — check before buying:
Plan the cable runs before you buy. The satellites and centre are passive and wire back to the subwoofer, which holds the amplifier — the supplied speaker wire comes in two lengths, roughly 7.6 m and 4.6 m, and that is what limits where the rear satellites can sit. Everything is switched from the separate control console, which also needs a place on the desk or shelf. There is no HDMI and no Bluetooth: sources connect on optical, coaxial, RCA, 3.5 mm analogue stereo or the 6-channel direct 3.5 mm inputs. A phone needs a 3.5 mm cable or a Bluetooth receiver of its own.
