The Manhattan 440486 is a keyed cable lock for laptops and devices that have the newer, smaller Nano Security Slot, tethering the device to a desk or fixed object with a 1.8 m galvanised steel cable — a simple deterrent for offices, hot desks, classrooms, receptions and shared spaces.

The lock head is a slim die-cast zinc alloy body designed so thin laptops can still lie flat on the desk when locked. Two keys are supplied, and a protective foam spacer stops the head from scuffing the chassis around the slot.

• Loop the cable around a fixed object (desk leg, cable tray, pipe), pass the lock head through the loop and lock it into the laptop’s Nano slot.
• The slim head keeps ultrabooks and thin 2-in-1s level on the desk instead of propping one corner up.
• The foam spacer included on the head protects the laptop finish around the slot.
• Keep the second key somewhere other than the laptop bag — without a key the lock can only be removed by cutting the cable.

• Laptops with a standard Kensington K-Slot (3 x 7 mm) — the head will not engage.
• Laptops with a Noble Wedge slot (3.2 x 4.5 mm), as used on many Dell models.
• Devices with no security slot at all (many MacBooks and consumer ultrabooks) — you would need an adhesive anchor plate instead.
• Master-key management — each lock has its own keys; this is not a master-keyed fleet system.
