Manhattan 338653 — 1.8 m Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Extension Cable, Type-A Male to Type-A Female

USB 2.0, up to 480 Mbps1.8 m (6 ft) extensionFoil and braided shieldingLifetime manufacturer warranty

The Manhattan 338653 is a 1.8 metre Hi-Speed USB 2.0 extension cable with a Type-A male plug at one end and a Type-A female socket at the other, for moving a printer, keyboard, hub or external drive further from the computer without unplugging anything. It carries the part number 338653 (EAN 0766623338653) and supports USB 2.0 data rates of up to 480 Mbps. The 28 AWG conductors are protected by full foil and braided shielding to keep interference out and the signal clean, the contacts are gold plated, and the connectors use moulded PVC boots for strain relief. It is UL 2725 listed, finished in black, supplied in a polybag, and covered by Manhattan’s lifetime warranty. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This is an extension cable, not a data transfer or bridge cable — Type-A male to Type-A female. It plugs into a computer or hub and accepts an existing USB cable or device at the other end; it will not connect two computers together, and doing so can damage the ports. Note the USB 2.0 specification limits a total run to 5 metres, so this 1.8 m extension leaves roughly 3.2 m for the device cable it extends. Chaining two extensions together exceeds the specification and often causes dropouts. This is a passive cable with no signal repeater; for distances beyond 5 m you need an active USB extender. Data rate is USB 2.0 at up to 480 Mbps — a USB 3.0 or 3.2 device will still work through it, but only at USB 2.0 speed, so do not use it in the path of a fast external SSD. The 28 AWG conductors suit data and low-power peripherals; for high-current charging or a bus-powered hard drive, a shorter or heavier-gauge cable is the safer choice.
Best For
✓ Moving a printer or scanner further from the desk
✓ Reaching a front-panel or rear USB port that is awkward to access
✓ Extending a keyboard, mouse or webcam lead
✓ Bringing a USB hub within easy reach of the desktop
✓ Reaching a wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted USB device
✓ Keeping a USB dongle away from a metal case that blocks signal
Key Features

Full foil and braided shielding
Both a foil wrap and a braided screen surround the conductors, which is what keeps external interference out of the data pair and stops the cable radiating noise into nearby equipment. Manhattan rates the assembly at 300 V DC withstanding voltage for 10 ms, 5 MOhms insulation resistance and 10 Ohms contact resistance.

Gold-plated contacts and moulded boots
The USB contacts are gold plated for a low-resistance connection that resists corrosion over years of plugging and unplugging, and both connectors use moulded PVC boots that take the strain off the conductors where the cable meets the plug — the point where cheap cables fail first.

USB 2.0 at up to 480 Mbps over 1.8 m
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 handles printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, webcams, dongles, card readers and external enclosures without difficulty. At 1.8 m the cable leaves useful headroom inside the 5 m total that the USB 2.0 specification allows for a complete run.

UL 2725 listed with a lifetime warranty
The cable is UL 2725 listed and USB 2.0 compliant, and Manhattan backs it with a lifetime warranty — a reasonable indication of how the company expects the moulding and shielding to hold up. It ships in a polybag rather than a retail box.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this cable to connect two computers together?
No, and you should not try. It is a Type-A male to Type-A female extension, so physically it could bridge two host ports, but both ends of a USB link cannot be hosts — connecting two computers this way can damage the USB controllers. To transfer files between two PCs you need a dedicated USB data-link or bridge cable with electronics in the middle, or a network connection.
How long can the total cable run be?
The USB 2.0 specification allows a maximum of 5 metres for a complete passive run. With this 1.8 m extension in the path, the device cable it extends should be no longer than about 3.2 m. Chaining two extensions together goes beyond the specification and commonly causes devices to disconnect or fail to enumerate. For longer distances you need an active USB extender with a built-in repeater.
Will my USB 3.0 device work through it?
It will work, but only at USB 2.0 speed, because the cable carries USB 2.0 wiring and is rated at up to 480 Mbps. That is fine for a printer, a keyboard, a webcam or a dongle. It is not the right cable for an external SSD or a fast card reader, where you would lose most of the drive performance.
What do I need to know before buying this cable?
It is an extension only — male at one end, female at the other. It is passive, with no repeater, and is limited to USB 2.0 speeds. The 28 AWG conductors suit data and low-power devices rather than high-current charging or a bus-powered hard disk. It arrives in a polybag rather than retail packaging, and Manhattan covers it with a lifetime warranty.
Singular Expert Insight
A USB extension is one of those items where the difference between a good one and a bad one only shows up months later, usually as a device that intermittently disconnects. What you are paying for here is the construction: full foil plus braided shielding, gold-plated contacts and moulded strain relief at both ends, backed by a lifetime warranty. Cheap unshielded extensions in the same length are common and are the usual cause of a webcam that drops out or a keyboard that stops responding when someone moves the desk. Two practical points. Watch the 5 metre total limit — this cable uses 1.8 m of it, so keep the device lead short, and do not chain two together. And keep it away from fast storage: at 480 Mbps it is right for printers, keyboards, hubs and dongles, but an external SSD belongs on a USB 3 cable. If you are extending toward a docking setup, our docking stations range is worth a look, and for the devices at the far end see our USB flash drives.
Buyer's Guide

Buy it if

You need to move a printer, keyboard, webcam, hub or dongle up to 1.8 m further from the computer, and you want a properly shielded cable with gold-plated contacts and a lifetime warranty rather than the cheapest option.

Skip it if

You need USB 3.0 speeds, a run longer than 5 metres in total, a cable to link two computers, or a cable that will carry high charging current to a bus-powered drive.

Also consider

An active USB extender if the distance exceeds 5 metres, or a USB 3.2 extension cable if the device at the far end is an external SSD or a fast card reader.
