MediaRange BD-R XL 100 GB 4x — Single Disc, Printable
BD-R XL 100 GB4x speed1 discInkjet printable
MediaRange MR520 is a single BD-R XL Blu-ray disc with 100 GB per disc (triple layer (BDXL)), rated for up to 4x writing and supplied in a jewel case — aimed at large single-disc archives where a BDXL drive is available.
As write-once media, once a session is finalised the data cannot be erased or overwritten — exactly what you want for archives, legal and accounting records, finished projects and handover copies. The top is white full-surface inkjet-printable with a print area of Ø 23–117 mm, so you can print titles, logos or artwork directly onto the disc with a compatible inkjet printer.
Before you order: BD-R XL (100 GB) discs need a BDXL-capable Blu-ray writer to burn and a BDXL-capable drive or player to read. Standard Blu-ray writers and many older players cannot use them — check for "BDXL" in your drive's specifications.
What's in the Box
- 1 × MediaRange BD-R XL disc, 100 GB each
- One standard jewel case protecting the disc
- Blank discs with the white full-surface inkjet-printable surface ready for your own artwork — no printer, ink or labelling software included
What It Means in Practice
- 100 GB on one disc means fewer discs to label, store and catalogue for large archives. MediaRange quotes up to 450 minutes of Full HD video per disc.
- Rated 4x (144 Mbps). Actual speed depends on your writer and burning software; for archive copies a moderate speed with verification after burning is a sensible habit.
- Write-once: the disc cannot be wiped by mistake or by ransomware once written, a real advantage for offline archive copies.
- Print area Ø 23–117 mm: you need an inkjet printer with a CD/DVD/Blu-ray print tray; let the ink dry fully before stacking or burning.
- MediaRange uses an HTL recording layer described as UV- and scratch-resistant and designed for long archival life; it recommends storage at about 23 °C and 50% relative humidity, away from sunlight.
- Jewel cases protect each disc on the shelf and leave room for a printed insert, which suits client deliveries and labelled archive sets.
- Windows and macOS can write simple data discs from the file manager; for verification after burning, multi-session control or Blu-ray video authoring, use dedicated burning software.
- For important archives burn two copies on separate discs and keep them in different locations — one disc is a copy, two discs in two places are a backup.
What Will Not Work
- CD or DVD-only drives cannot read or write these discs — you need a Blu-ray writer to burn them and a Blu-ray drive or player to read them.
- Standard (non-BDXL) Blu-ray writers cannot burn 100 GB discs, and many non-BDXL drives and players will not read them.
- Laser printers, thermal disc printers and adhesive labels are not the intended method — this surface is for inkjet disc printing.
- Most current laptops and all current Macs have no optical drive; you will need an external USB Blu-ray writer.
- A data disc is not automatically a playable movie: to play in a Blu-ray player, video must be authored as a Blu-ray video disc with suitable software.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play these discs in a normal Blu-ray player?
Only if the player supports BDXL, and only if the content is authored as Blu-ray video. Many older players do not support BDXL.
Can I add more data later?
Many burning tools can write in multiple sessions until the disc is finalised, but nothing can be erased. For data that changes, use BD-RE.
Which printers can print on these discs?
Inkjet printers that have a CD/DVD/Blu-ray disc print tray. Use the printer's disc-printing mode and let the ink dry before handling.
How long will the data last?
MediaRange designs the HTL layer for long archival life but does not give a figure in years. Life depends mostly on storage: keep discs upright, away from sunlight, heat and humidity, handled by the edges — MediaRange recommends about 23 °C and 50% relative humidity.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Blu-ray remains one of the few offline, write-protected storage options that small businesses can afford: an archive disc cannot be encrypted by ransomware once it is on the shelf. BDXL gives the most capacity per disc but only in BDXL hardware — confirm both the writer and every reading device before you commit an archive to it. For daily backups of hundreds of gigabytes, an
external hard drive is faster and pairs well with periodic Blu-ray archive copies.
✓ Buy it if you already have a BDXL writer and want the most capacity per disc for long-term archives.
✕ Skip it if your writer or the devices that must read the disc do not list BDXL support.
→ Also consider MR509 — 50 GB dual-layer printable discs that work in any Blu-ray writer with BD-R DL support, no BDXL drive needed.
