MediaRange MR914 8GB: small sliding USB 3.2 stick with key hanger

8GBUSB 3.2 Gen 134 / 9 MB/sAluminium

The MediaRange MR914 is an 8GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive with an aluminium and ABS sliding housing and an included nylon key hanger, rated up to 34 MB/s read and 9 MB/s write, for users who need a low-cost stick for documents, firmware updates or boot tools.

Push the slider to extend the USB-A connector, pull it back to protect it; there is no cap to lose. The silver and black drive measures about 56 × 19 × 7 mm and weighs about 9 g, and it is plug and play on Windows, macOS and Linux.

What's in the Box

  • 1 × MediaRange MR914 8GB USB flash drive
  • 1 × nylon key hanger
  • Retail blister card

What It Means in Practice

  • 8GB is ideal for a Windows or Linux installer, BIOS and firmware updates, or a folder of documents.
  • Write speed is up to 9 MB/s, so loading a 6GB installer image takes around 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Usable capacity shown in Windows or macOS is lower than the label: manufacturers count 1 GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes, operating systems count in binary units, and the file system takes a small share.
  • Real-world speed depends on the port, the computer and the files: one large video copies much faster than thousands of small photos or documents.
  • Always use Eject or Safely Remove before pulling the drive out; unplugging during a write is the most common cause of a corrupted stick.

What Will Not Work

  • 8GB will not hold photo libraries or video; choose a larger stick for media.
  • It does not plug straight into USB-C-only laptops, tablets or phones; you need a USB-C to USB-A adapter (an OTG adapter for phones).
  • It is not a backup on its own: flash drives get lost and can fail, so keep a second copy of anything important.
  • It is not an external SSD; for large daily transfers or running applications from the drive, an external SSD is the right tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make a bootable installer with it?
Yes. 8GB is enough for current Windows and most Linux installer images; tools such as the Windows Media Creation Tool or Rufus will format it for you.
Can I copy files larger than 4 GB?
Only if the drive is formatted as exFAT (Windows and macOS) or NTFS (Windows). FAT32, often used on new drives, limits single files to 4 GB. Reformatting erases everything on the drive, so do it before you copy data.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
An inexpensive utility stick: perfect for installers and firmware, too small for media. For other capacities and designs, see our range of USB flash drives.
✓ Buy it if you need a cheap USB 3.2 stick for installers, updates or documents.
✕ Skip it if you need space for photos or video.
