MSI PRO B550M-P — AMD B550, Socket AM4, micro-ATX, PCIe 4.0, Dual M.2, Triple Display Output

AMD B550, Socket AM4micro-ATX, PCIe 4.0 x16HDMI + DisplayPort + VGA2x M.2, RAID 0/1/10

The MSI PRO B550M-P, product ID 7C95-201R, is a micro-ATX motherboard on the AMD B550 chipset for Socket AM4, aimed squarely at office, workstation and small-form-factor builds rather than at gaming. It supports the widest AM4 processor range MSI publishes for the platform — Ryzen 5000, 5000 G-Series, 4000 G-Series, 3000 Series and 3000 G-Series — with four DDR4 slots to 128 GB and A-XMP overclocking to DDR4-4400+. The graphics slot is PCIe 4.0 x16 straight from the CPU, and storage runs to two M.2 slots (the first PCIe 4.0 x4 or SATA) plus four SATA 6 Gb/s ports, with RAID 0/1/10 on SATA and RAID 0/1 on NVMe. What sets a PRO board apart is the display and legacy connectivity: HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and VGA all on the rear panel, plus a PS/2 keyboard and mouse port — exactly what an office fleet or a machine driving an older projector or KVM needs. Four EZ Debug LEDs make a failed boot diagnosable at a glance. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The trade-offs on this board are deliberate and worth reading before you order. USB tops out at 5 Gbps — there is no 10 Gbps port anywhere, and the only USB-C is a front-panel header, so there is no USB-C on the rear panel at all. If a rear USB-C or a fast external SSD matters to you, this is the wrong board. Cooling and expansion are similarly modest: one CPU fan header and two system fan headers, four SATA ports rather than six, and beyond the single x16 slot only two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots — there is no second long slot. MSI does not list a Flash BIOS Button on this model, which on AM4 matters: if the board ships with firmware older than your CPU, you may need a compatible processor to perform the update. Onboard video requires a CPU with integrated graphics (a G-Series chip); with a standard Ryzen 5000 there is no picture from the board. Memory is non-ECC, unbuffered only — ECC is not supported. Networking is a single 1 Gigabit port with no Wi-Fi. And this is AM4: Ryzen 7000 and newer are AM5 and will not fit.
Key Features

Three display outputs including VGA
HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 both reach 4K 60 Hz from an APU, and there is a genuine VGA port at up to 2048 x 1536. In an office, a school or a workshop that VGA output is not nostalgia — it is what connects the projector, the KVM or the analogue panel that is still perfectly serviceable.

PCIe 4.0 x16 direct from the CPU
The primary slot is fed by the processor at PCIe 4.0, so a modern graphics card or a Gen4 NVMe drive in M.2_1 runs at full bandwidth. That is the concrete advantage B550 holds over the older B450 chipset.

Two M.2 slots with RAID support
M.2_1 comes from the CPU at PCIe 4.0 x4 or SATA; M.2_2 comes from the chipset at PCIe 3.0 x4. MSI supports RAID 0 and 1 across the NVMe drives, and RAID 0, 1 and 10 across the four SATA ports — useful in a small workstation or a light server build.

Broad AM4 processor support
Ryzen 5000, 5000 G-Series, 4000 G-Series, 3000 Series and 3000 G-Series are all listed. That is a wider net than several B550 boards cast, and it makes this a practical drop-in for refreshing an existing AM4 machine or building around whatever chip is cheapest today.

PS/2 keyboard and mouse port
A single combo PS/2 connector, which sounds archaic until you are deploying to an environment with legacy peripherals, a locked-down KVM, or a BIOS-level task where USB is not initialised. On a PRO-series board it is there on purpose.

4x EZ Debug LED
Four LEDs covering CPU, DRAM, VGA and BOOT. When a machine does not post, they point at the failing subsystem immediately instead of sending you through a parts-swapping exercise — the most useful diagnostic on any mainstream board.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a USB-C port on the back?
No. The rear panel has four USB 5 Gbps Type-A ports and two USB 2.0 ports, and that is all. The board does provide a USB 5 Gbps Type-C front-panel header, so a case with a USB-C front port will work — but there is no Type-C connector on the rear I/O and no 10 Gbps port anywhere on this board.
Can I run a 4K monitor from the integrated graphics?
Yes, over either HDMI or DisplayPort — MSI specifies HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 at up to 4K 60 Hz. Both require a CPU with integrated graphics, which on AM4 means a G-Series chip. With a standard Ryzen 5000 processor there is no video output from the board at all.
Why would I want the VGA port?
Because a great deal of installed equipment still uses it: meeting-room projectors, KVM switches, industrial and laboratory panels, older monitors on office desks. On a PRO-series board VGA is a deployment feature, not an oversight — it is often the reason this board is chosen over a gaming model.
Does it have a Flash BIOS Button?
MSI does not list one for this model. That matters on AM4: if a board ships with firmware older than your processor, it may not post, and without Flash BIOS you would need a compatible older CPU to perform the update. Check the BIOS version supplied against your intended CPU, or buy from a supplier who can confirm it.
Four SATA ports instead of six — is that a problem?
Only if you are building a storage-heavy machine. Four SATA ports plus two M.2 slots covers an office PC, a workstation with a couple of drives, or a small NAS-style build comfortably. If you are populating six or more spinning drives, choose an ATX board with more ports.
Will it take a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or a Ryzen 7000 chip?
Ryzen 5000 Series is supported, which includes the 5800X3D. Ryzen 7000 and newer are not — those are AM5 processors with a physically different socket and DDR5 memory. This is an AM4 board and stops at the Ryzen 5000 generation.
Singular Expert Insight
The PRO line exists for a different buyer than the gaming boards, and this one is honest about it. What you are paying for is the deployment feature set: three display outputs including a real VGA port, a PS/2 combo connector, the widest AM4 CPU support MSI publishes, RAID across both SATA and NVMe, and EZ Debug LEDs so a technician can diagnose a dead machine without opening a second one. What has been left out is equally clear and worth checking against your requirements — no 10 Gbps USB, no rear USB-C at all, four SATA ports rather than six, only two system fan headers, and no Flash BIOS Button, which is the one omission that can bite on an AM4 build if the shipped firmware predates your processor. For an office fleet, a small workstation, or a machine that has to drive legacy display hardware, this is exactly the right board. For a gaming build with fast external storage, it is not. Browse our memory range for the DDR4 kits it takes, and see our PC power supplies section for the rest of the build.
Buyer's Guide

Buy it if

You are building an office, workstation or compact AM4 machine that needs broad Ryzen support, PCIe 4.0, dual M.2 with RAID, and display outputs that include DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA.

Skip it if

You need 10 Gbps USB, a rear USB-C port, six SATA ports, Wi-Fi or 2.5 Gigabit LAN. Also skip it for Ryzen 7000 or newer, which require an AM5 board.

Also consider

AM5 motherboards for Ryzen 7000 and newer builds, ATX B550 boards where more SATA ports and faster USB are needed, or DDR4 memory kits and AM4 processors to complete this build.
