Origin Storage 8GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM — memory for current DDR5 laptops, 1.1V

8GB DDR5-5600262-pin SO-DIMM1Rx16 · Non-ECC1.1V

The Origin Storage OM8G55600SO1RX16NE11 is an 8GB DDR5 SO-DIMM laptop memory module rated at 5600MHz, for current business laptops, mini PCs and compact systems with DDR5 SO-DIMM slots. It is single rank (1Rx16), non-ECC and unbuffered, and runs at the DDR5 standard voltage of 1.1V.

Origin Storage is a UK memory specialist supplying upgrade parts to IT departments. Use this module to add a second 8GB stick to a DDR5 laptop that shipped with one, or to replace a faulty module with a like-for-like part.

Before you order: DDR5 only. This 262-pin SO-DIMM does not fit DDR4 laptops (different notch), desktop DIMM slots, or laptops with soldered LPDDR5/LPDDR5X memory or CAMM2 modules.

What's in the Box

  • 1 x Origin Storage 8GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM module (OM8G55600SO1RX16NE11)
  • No tools beyond the screwdriver for your laptop’s base cover

What It Means in Practice

  • 8GB + 8GB: adding this to a DDR5 laptop that has one 8GB module gives 16GB in dual channel — integrated graphics and multitasking both benefit.
  • On platforms that top out below 5600MHz (for example 4800 or 5200MHz), the module runs at the platform speed automatically.
  • DDR5 has an on-module power management chip (PMIC) and on-die ECC inside the chips; that is not the same as ECC memory — this is a standard non-ECC module.
  • Single rank with x16 chips is the cost-efficient layout Origin uses for fleet upgrades; matching the rank of the module already fitted keeps dual channel predictable.

What Will Not Work

  • DDR4 or DDR3 laptops — the notch is in a different place; it will not seat.
  • Laptops with soldered LPDDR5/LPDDR5X memory or CAMM2 modules (many thin-and-light models).
  • Desktop PCs — they use the longer 288-pin DDR5 DIMM.
  • Servers and workstations that require ECC or registered memory.

Key Features

8GB DDR5 at 5600MHz
Higher bandwidth than DDR4; downclocks automatically on slower platforms.

1.1V operation
Lower DDR5 voltage, managed by the module’s own PMIC.

Single rank 1Rx16
Cost-efficient layout aimed at business-laptop rollouts.

Long manufacturer term
Origin Storage lists a 20-year warranty period for this module.

Frequently Asked Questions

My laptop has 8GB DDR5 — will this give me 16GB?
Yes, if the laptop has a second DDR5 SO-DIMM slot or the existing 8GB is a removable module you can pair with this one. Check that the memory is not soldered first.
Is DDR5 backward compatible with DDR4?
No. DDR5 needs a DDR5 platform; the modules are keyed differently so they cannot be installed by mistake.
Why buy 5600MHz if my laptop runs 5200MHz?
5600MHz is the current standard rating and it runs at 5200MHz without issue; it also keeps the part usable in newer DDR5 laptops.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Most current business laptops with DDR5 ship with one 8GB stick; a second matching module is the cheapest meaningful upgrade because it doubles both capacity and memory bandwidth. Confirm there is a socketed SO-DIMM slot — LPDDR5 and CAMM2 machines cannot be upgraded this way. See our memory (RAM) range for 16GB and desktop modules.
✓ Buy it if your laptop has a socketed DDR5 SO-DIMM slot and you want 16GB dual channel or a like-for-like replacement.
✕ Skip it if your laptop is DDR4, uses soldered LPDDR5 or CAMM2, or you need a desktop DIMM.
→ Also consider Origin Storage 8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM (OM8G43200SO1RX16NE12) for DDR4 laptops.
Not sure it fits? Send us your laptop model and we will confirm DDR generation and slot layout before you order.
