The Patriot P210 512GB is a 2.5" SATA III solid-state drive with sequential speeds of up to 520 MB/s read and 430 MB/s write, built to replace a slow hard disk in an older laptop or desktop. For everyday use the biggest change is responsiveness: faster boot, quicker application loading and no mechanical noise.

It uses the standard 2.5" format at 7 mm thickness, works in SATA 6Gb/s and older SATA 3Gb/s ports, and supports TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. Patriot rates the 512GB model at 240 TBW and up to 50K IOPS random read and write.

• In a laptop or PC that still runs on a hard disk, a SATA SSD typically turns boot and app start-up from minutes into seconds — the most noticeable upgrade for older machines.
• 520 MB/s is close to the practical limit of SATA 6Gb/s; in an older SATA 3Gb/s port the drive works but at roughly half that.
• The 7 mm height fits slim laptop bays; in desktops a 2.5" to 3.5" mounting bracket may be needed if the case has no 2.5" position (not included).
• 240 TBW is a comfortable margin for home and office use; it is also the point at which Patriot's warranty ends if reached before 3 years.
• To move an existing system you need cloning software and a USB adapter or enclosure for the new drive.
