The PLANET MFB-FX is a 100BASE-FX SFP transceiver that carries Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) over multimode fibre at 1310 nm for distances of up to 2 km, using an LC duplex connector. It is used to extend or maintain 100 Mbps fibre links — for example to legacy equipment, industrial devices, building automation or older fibre media converters — from a switch or converter whose SFP port supports 100BASE-FX.
Multimode 100FX reaches much further than Gigabit SX on the same fibre, which is why it is still common on older campus cabling.
Before you order: The host SFP port must support 100BASE-FX. Most Gigabit SFP ports only accept 1000BASE modules and will not light up a 100 Mbps module — check your switch or media converter datasheet, or send us the model.

- Speed is fixed at 100 Mbps — it does not run at Gigabit.
- Use multimode fibre (50/125 or 62.5/125 µm) with LC duplex connectors; one module is needed at each end.
- Operating temperature 0–60 °C; for harsh environments PLANET offers a separate industrial model (MFB-TFX).
- Hot-pluggable SFP (MSA).

- Gigabit-only SFP ports (most 1G switch ports do not support 100BASE-FX).
- Single-mode fibre.
- A 1000BASE-SX or other Gigabit module at the far end.
