PNY Elite Steel 3.1 128GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive, Capless Sliding Metal Housing, up to 80 MB/s Read and 20 MB/s Write, Grey

The PNY Elite Steel 3.1 128GB (FD128ESTEEL31G-EF) is a capless USB 3.1 flash drive in a grey metal housing, with up to 80 MB/s read and up to 20 MB/s write on a USB 3.1 port, for users who carry their drive every day and want a metal body that survives a pocket.

There is no cap to lose: a slider on the back pushes the USB-A connector out for use and pulls it back inside the metal body for protection. At 53.3 × 17.6 × 7.2 mm it is compact enough to carry every day.

• Reading at up to 80 MB/s, opening and copying files from the drive is quick; writing to it at up to 20 MB/s means loading 50GB takes roughly 45 minutes.
• Retract the connector after use; the sliding design keeps dust and pocket debris away from the contacts.
• Usable capacity shown in Windows or macOS is lower than the label: manufacturers count 1 GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes, operating systems count in binary units, and the file system takes a small share.
• Real-world speed depends on the port, the computer and the files: one large video copies much faster than thousands of small photos or documents.
• Always use Eject or Safely Remove before pulling the drive out; unplugging during a write is the most common cause of a corrupted stick.

• Write speed is modest (up to 20 MB/s); for regularly loading large video files choose a faster drive or an external SSD.
• It does not plug straight into USB-C-only laptops, tablets or phones; you need a USB-C to USB-A adapter (an OTG adapter for phones).
• It is not a backup on its own: flash drives get lost and can fail, so keep a second copy of anything important.
• It is not an external SSD; for large daily transfers or running applications from the drive, an external SSD is the right tool.
