The ICY BOX IB-AC501a by RaidSonic is a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet adapter that adds a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port to laptops and desktops through a USB Type-A port. It is meant for notebooks without a network socket, desktops with a defective onboard LAN, and users who want a more stable connection than Wi-Fi.

RaidSonic specifies IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3ab compliance, full and half duplex, jumbo frame support and reduced EMI radiation. A LAN activity LED shows when data is flowing, and the adapter connects through a short cable so it does not put leverage on the USB port. The black plastic housing weighs only 19 g.

The adapter is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.x ports, though full Gigabit throughput needs USB 3.0. A CD with manual and driver is included.
