The ICY BOX IB-HUB1409-U3 adds four USB-A ports to a computer that already has a USB-A socket, at up to 5 Gbps. Two things separate it from the crowd at this level: the body is aluminium throughout with a sandblasted finish rather than plastic with a metal lid, and the cable is a generous 40 cm — roughly double what most compact hubs give you. RaidSonic publishes the controller too, a VIA Labs VL812.

Check the suffix before ordering. ICY BOX sells the IB-HUB1409-C3, which is the same hub with a USB-C plug instead of USB-A. The two part numbers differ by one character, their EANs are consecutive, and listings frequently show both names together — but they are not interchangeable. This page is the U3, the USB-A version. The hub is bus-powered with no external supply and no charging input, so keyboards, mice, dongles, flash drives, card readers and one bus-powered SSD are the right load; two spinning hard drives are not.
